The collaboration agreement was signed between Flavia Santoro Trujillo, President of ProColombia and Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus, to promote tourism between both countries
ProColombia, the Embassy of Colombia in Mexico and Viva Aerobus announced the arrival of the airline, for the first time, to South America with its new direct route Mexico City - Bogotá. This service will begin operations on August 21 with two frequencies a week and as of September 15 with a daily flight.
"We are excited to welcome you to Viva Aerobus, an airline that is committed to promoting more opportunities in terms of trade, investment and tourism between Mexico and Colombia. So with the Bogotá - Mexico City route, more visitors will be attracted to know everything the tourist potential of these two destinations and, in addition, it will generate an important economic contribution for the benefit of both countries, "said Flavia Santoro, President of ProColombia.
The flights, with an approximate duration of 4.5 hours, will be operated with Airbus A320 aircraft, aircraft that are part of the youngest fleet in Mexico and the second youngest in all of North America, offering the highest standards in terms of safety, efficiency and reliability.
For her part, Patricia Cárdenas, Ambassador of Colombia in Mexico, pointed out that the arrival of Viva Aerobus in Colombia “fosters relations between both countries and strengthens a much-needed connectivity within the framework of economic recovery, bringing two key destinations and countries that they have become strategic business partners ”.
This route is designed to meet the needs of an air market (Mexico - Colombia) that in recent years has positioned itself among the three most important in Latin America in terms of passenger traffic. According to the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association, prior to the pandemic, the flow of passengers between Colombia and Mexico exceeded one and a half million people a year.
In this context, ProColombia and Viva Aerobus signed a collaboration agreement that will help boost tourism between both countries by making visible and promoting iconic destinations; as well as the advantages of the arrival of the airline. In this sense, Viva benefits the passenger with a new flight alternative that prioritizes health care, flexibility in flight changes and low prices, thus taking care of the economy and well-being of international travelers.
“We will land in Colombia to make a difference with our value proposition that has characterized us for almost 15 years: safety, reliability, the best prices and a customer-focused service that has made us the most flexible airline in Mexico after having eliminated all charges for changes in flights ”, explained Juan Carlos Zuazua, General Director of Viva Aerobus. “Under these commitments to the well-being and satisfaction of the client, we will serve a new and important market to provide a 100% safe option for recreational trips, business or visiting loved ones. Today marks a new stage in which Colombia and Mexico will be closer than ever ”, he explained.
With the opening of this new route, Viva Aerobus reaffirms its commitment to accessible air connectivity in Mexico City, one of the 5 operational bases of the airline, where it already operates 39 routes: 31 national and now 8 international. This city has become a key destination for the airline, where it just surpassed the record of 25 million passengers transported since its foundation in 2006 and where it has inaugurated more than 15 routes in the last year.
This expansion of Viva's offer is carried out with unrestricted adherence to disciplined prevention and hygiene measures that protect the health of passengers and collaborators at all stages of the flight. In this regard, the airline established additional disinfection processes in aircraft and common areas, constant training for its personnel in preventive and cleaning protocols, mandatory use of face masks, provision of sanitizing elements such as antibacterial gel and disinfectant towels, reduction of interaction in points of contact such as counters and boarding rooms, an alliance with Cloralex, among many other actions. As a result of this commitment, Viva has been accredited with the Tourist Security Stamp granted by the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico City.
