Brazil strengthens its infrastructure for the MICE segment
Manaus will now have the largest Convention Center in the North region
The Amazonas Vasco Vásquez Convention Center expanded the structure of the space after an investment of R $ 40 million by the Ministry of Tourism.
The opening ceremony was attended by President Jair Bolsonaro, the Minister of Tourism, Gilson Machado, the Governor of the State, Wilson Lima, and the President of Caixa Econômica Federal, Pedro Guimarães, as well as authorities and parliamentarians. At that time, a contribution of R $ 1.2 billion was also formalized from the Ministry of Tourism for the granting of loans through the General Tourism Fund (Fungetur) by Caixa.
President Jair Bolsonaro, who during the event received the title of Amazonian Citizen, granted by the state Legislative Assembly, highlighted the efforts of the federal government to combat the impacts of the pandemic and pointed out the efforts to recover local tourism. "I greet Minister Gilson here for the initiative of this work, as well as the president of Caixa, making resources available for the tourist area," he declared.
The construction of the Convention Center began in 2015, but, as of 2018, only 14% of the forecast had been met. The Minister of Tourism highlighted the work of the federal government aimed at completing unfinished projects from previous governments. “We are opening a convention center that was once a monument to neglect. Our government has opened structures that were abandoned day after day, ”he said.
Gilson Machado Neto also praised the attractions of the Amazon, such as sport fishing, contemplation of nature, ethno-tourism and gastronomic tourism. “Nothing is like a tourist experience like the one that Amazonas offers. You and Brazil are really different, ”he declared, also pointing to the federal work to support tourism in the midst of the pandemic, stimulate the national travel market and advance vaccination against COVID-19.
Governor Wilson Lima, for his part, thanked President Bolsonaro and MTur for the support of the state. “You, President, are inaugurating a project that is a milestone for the state, important for tourism. I want to congratulate Minister Gilson Machado, who has been a great partner of the state and a great supporter and supporter of Amazonas, ”he said, also recognizing the efforts of the federal government to combat the pandemic in Amazonas.
With the expansion, the Convention Center will have a capacity for 10,000 people simultaneously, with 4 floors in a total of 14,300 m². The ceremony also featured the Minister of Citizenship, João Roma, who made the symbolic delivery of more than 310 thousand basic baskets of the Fraternal Brazil Program. The project seeks to create a national solidarity network to guarantee food security for families in situations of social vulnerability.
In 2019 and 2020, MTur released R $ 42.4 million for tourism infrastructure works in Amazonas, of which R $ 37.9 million were only for Manaus. In addition to the Convention Center in the capital, the agency invests in the reform of the Parintins Municipal Market (R $ 3.5 million), in the revitalization of the Orim do Rio Solimões, in Manacapuru (R $ 1.8 million) and in the construction of the Barcelos airport terminal (R $ 1.3 million). The state also received R $ 66 million, through the Aldir Blanc Law, for emergency actions in the area of culture.
