The Convention Bureaux of Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Lima, Sao Paulo and Quito Tourism, presented in a hybrid event a study that reveals the panorama on how the industry has been transformed

The Convention Bureaux of Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Lima, Sao Paulo and Quito Tourism, presented in a hybrid event, the results of the great reactivation survey, “Towards the new meetings industry”. The report aims to publicize the new reality of the MICE industry, in the associative and corporate market, based on surveys of both sectors at the Latin American, Inter-American, Ibero-American, Pan-American and World levels.

The result of the project carried out by the MICE South America Alliance, provides a broad panorama of how the industry has been transformed and redesigned in the current situation. In this regard, we present the main indicators and analysis of results:

The associative market continues to bet on holding events, which suggests a sustained recovery of the industry in the medium term; A clear example of this is the 60% of the institutions, which plan to hold at least 3 events over the next 5 years.

In-person events continue to be an option for the associative sector. Even the second half of 2021 presents a projected trend, which increases towards 2022. It should be noted that the return of face-to-face events also presents a new space for the hybrid component, with which associations hope to achieve the usual goal of assistants, and even increase it.

The projection of high season between August and November for our region is maintained, and we are surprised, that despite the sub-specialization that has prevailed in recent years, and how much has been said about the reduction of attendees to events, a A significant third of associations maintain the expectation of attendance of more than 1000 people at their events.

The post-COVID era sets a precise guideline for the choice of the host destination: biosafety protocols, conditions of entry into the country, costs and cancellation policies, are the determining factors to remain in force before the associative market.

Regarding the corporate market, the deliverable presents important contributions for the industry:

The corporate sector reflects the closest recovery in the face of incentive trips, even being able to speak of the short term (second semester 2021 and 2022). Two-thirds of the sample has already received requests and made quotes for these periods.

The following aspects mark the trend that will govern this segment in the new post-COVID era:
• Groups of a maximum of 100 pax
• Duration of 3 to 6 days
• Minimum budget of USD 1,000 per person
• Slight trend towards 5-star hotels

With respect To the choice of destination, the factors are totally similar to those presented by the associative market: biosecurity, entry requirements, vaccination plan of the destination and, not least, budgets offered.

Through this contribution, Alianza MICE South America renews its commitment to work in favor of the reactivation of the industry in the region.
