FITUR 2021 has managed to boost the reactivation of tourism
IFEMA MADRID's determination to launch the first fair held in person in Europe has been highly valued by the sector and has decisively contributed to awakening optimism for next summer
Yesterday the International Tourism Fair closed its doors, in a special edition, which has highlighted the urgent need for the recovery of the tourism sector worldwide. Tourism Ministers from 28 countries, the World Tourism Organization, and Spanish government and regional authorities have seen in FITUR a unique opportunity to announce the activation of extraordinary plans and measures for the reactivation of Tourism.
The figures reached confirm a turning point: 5,000 companies and 55 countries, more than 62,000 in-person attendees - 42,000 professionals, and more than 20,000 estimated visitors after the closing of its two public sessions today. To these results must be added the figure of more than 40,000 digital visitors, thanks to the launch of this first hybrid edition of the Fair, which has contributed to the international reach of FITUR, with the presence of almost a hundred countries represented.
The balance of this edition of FITUR has resulted in the participation of 5,000 companies from the five continents, the presence of 55 countries, 37 of them with official representation, as well as the 17 Autonomous Communities of Spain. in addition to Ceuta and Melilla; and with figures that exceed the attendance of more than 62,000 attendees -42,000 professionals, and an estimate of more than 20,000 visits from the general public during the weekend-. A movement of arrivals to Madrid on the occasion of FITUR that is estimated to have generated an economic impact of approximately 100 million euros in the city.
Some figures to which we must add in this edition the digital visitors who have added more than 40,000, thanks to the launch of this first hybrid edition of the Fair, which has substantially contributed to granting greater international reach to FITUR, with presence from almost a hundred countries represented and to offer great possibilities for professional networking.
Likewise, it is necessary to highlight the strong institutional support that FITUR has received, with the support of Casa Real, which, once again. put the finishing touch to the opening day with the presence of His Majesties. the Kings of Spain, as well as by the Government of Spain, granting the consideration of the assistance to FITUR as an “essential trip” for qualified international professionals and declared to the fair as an Event of Exceptional Public Interest. FITUR has also been the setting chosen for the presentation by the President of the Government of the European Union COVID Digital Certificate, and of the meeting of the Spanish Tourism Council.
FITUR has also been the great institutional event in the tourism field, after 13 months of a pandemic, where tourism ministers from 28 countries have met, and a total of 371 authorities among Spanish ministers, presidents, tourism advisers from all the Communities Autonomous and Mayors of different towns and cities in Spain.
The impact of the FITUR celebration has also been reflected in the extensive international media coverage recorded these days. in which nearly 2,500 journalists from 33 countries have been accredited. In total during its celebration it has added a total of 120,000 news items, and an audience of 6.180 million.
Next year FITUR will return to its usual dates, specifically it will be held from January 19 to 23, with the stellar presence of the Dominican Republic that will be for the second time 'FITUR Partner' and so far the only destination that has repeated in this special participation format, in alliance with the IFEMA MADRID / FITUR brand.
