The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, affirmed that the news that Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón gave last Friday, during the morning press conference in the National Palace, on the supply of vaccines for tourist areas of the country and the The northern border strip is a great decision by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador that will promote the reactivation of commerce, the tourist industry and the flow of hikers.
He indicated that, in this way and in a coordinated manner, the Ministries of Economy, Health, Tourism and Foreign Relations work to respond to the demands of the sector and the general population of these regions.
He specified that President López Obrador's instructions include supplying vaccines against Covid-19 to Quintana Roo and Baja California Sur, two of the most important states in tourism, but Jalisco and Nayarit, among others, will also be taken into account; in addition to border entities such as Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas.
Secretary Torruco Marqués highlighted that in 2019 62 million 732 thousand visitors entered the northern border of Mexico, of which 21 million thirteen thousand were tourists and 41 million 719 thousand carried out hiking activities.
The economic spill they generated was 2,897 million dollars: 54.4 percent was from hikers and 45.6 from border tourists; with an average expense of 36.6 and 44.7 dollars, respectively.
