The low-cost airline will operate from seven of the ten largest airports in Florida

Spirit Arilines announced that it will begin operating from Miami International Airport. The low-cost carrier will thus complement the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) service, as the airline reinforces plans for additional growth in South Florida due to strong and growing demand.

Andrea Baigorria. External Communications Manager at Spirit Airlines stated: "We are publishing the list of destinations we intend to fly to and the dates we intend to begin each route. The procedure to initiate service from MIA requires that we make a public presentation describing the routes that We intend to operate before we can get space in the terminal and the counter at the airport. Flight times and prices will be published once we complete the coordination of the space at the airport and we can adjust our final schedule based on the outcome of that process".

"We are the largest airline in FLL and we intend to remain so. In fact, we will reach 100 daily flights from FLL for the first time in July. The demand is there to support growth throughout South Florida. Our flight from MIA supports continued expansion in the region. Together with Palm Beach International Airport (PBI), it allows us to provide our Passengers with more options when traveling to and from South Florida. It will not result in a reduction in flights at FLL , which continues to be our main gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean, in addition to offering service to dozens of national destinations. "

"With the addition of MIA, Spirit will operate out of seven of the ten largest airports in Florida: FLL, MIA, PBI, Orlando (MCO), Tampa (TPA), Fort Myers (RSW) and Pensacola (PNS)."
