CATA launches campaign to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Central American countries
The initiative seeks to capitalize on the opportunity represented by the 200 years of independence of the countries of the region to combine patriotic, historical and cultural sentiment with a commercial hub promoting intraregional tourism
The Central American Tourism Promotion Agency (CATA) has started a tourism promotion campaign within the framework of the 200 years of independence for Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Panama has also joined the initiative, commemorating its bicentennial of independence in November 2021, which is expected to extend the campaign at the end of the year.
The campaign seeks to take advantage of the opportunity represented by the 200 years of independence of the countries of the region to combine patriotic, historical and cultural sentiment with a commercial hub promoting intraregional tourism. In this way, it is expected to promote the bonds of brotherhood and regional identity, at the same time that it seeks to establish strategic alliances with allies of the tourism sector for the reactivation of the industry.
CATA has retaken the impressive tourist offer of the region to position it in the international and intraregional market with the slogans "Central America 200" and "Hug your flag" with which it is expected to generate greater involvement of the different sectors related to tourism and integration. Central American.
The campaign is divided into 3 phases, including awareness-raising, followed by a joint marketing stage to promote intra-regional tourism with which it is expected to promote actions with airlines in the region to promote Central American destinations in the tourist reactivation stage. .
The Minister of Tourism of Costa Rica, as President Pro Tempore of CATA, Gustavo J. Segura Sancho stated that “this 2021 we have made important joint regional efforts to reactivate our destinations and the bicentennial is an opportunity to live our lives with pride. independence and celebrate the human quality of our peoples, our indigenous groups, our gastronomy, and the tourism potential. "
For her part, Carolina Briones Secretary General of CATA states that “Resilience, innovation and sustainability are issues that are at the center of CATA's actions. The Bicentennial of the Central American countries adds new brilliance and represents the opportunity to promote higher levels of integration through such an important celebration, highlighting the region's tourism potential in the reactivation stage ”.
This effort is part of the initiatives promoted by the CATA Board of Directors, and will be implemented under the leadership of Costa Rica, in its capacity as Pro Tempore Presidency of the Agency, and will be intensified by Guatemala throughout the second semester of 2021, period in which the Pro Tempore Presidency of CATA will be held.
