Emissive and receptive tourism grows in Mexico during July

Due to the flexible rules for the entry of foreigners, Mexico has become one of the favorite destinations for foreigners for the July holidays. What few people know is that Mexicans themselves also greatly increased their demand for tickets for their trips, both national and international, during the summer season.
Data from Amadeus' data intelligence tools show that the total number of searches made in Mexico in the period between May 1 and June 23, 2021 was 434% higher than the number of searches in the same period of the year. 2020.
Amadeus measured the number of searches conducted in this period and even though the numbers are below the time before the pandemic, it is already noticeable that travelers are resuming their plans.
With regard to national destinations, Mexico City, Cancun and Chihuahua stand out among the top 5, growing in the number of searches 306%, 244% and 293% respectively. Followed by Tijuana (279%) and Guadalajara (252%) which are among the 10 most sought after destinations in Mexico.
While the least searched national destinations were Querétaro, Puerto Vallarta and Huatulco, which still had an increase in the number of searches of 388%, 226% and 550% compared to 2020.
"The ease of traveling between Mexico and the United States, as well as the closure of borders and restrictions to travel to Europe and other common destinations could contribute to these numbers," endorsed Ana Paola Durón, country manager for Amadeus in Mexico. "With the advancement of vaccination, we believe that this scenario will continue to improve for the second half of the year, with a growing confidence of travelers in planning their domestic and international trips."
The cities of New York, Los Angeles and Chicago are 3 of the 5 international destinations most sought after by Mexican travelers, with growth of 455%, 312% and 293% year vs. year, respectively. In addition, 3 other international destinations are among the 10 most searched destinations in Mexico, Houston with a growth of 408%, Dallas that had 384% more searches and Miami with 357% more searches than the same period of the previous year.
The least searched international destinations in Mexico were Portland, Sacramento and Boston, however, each one maintained increases of more than 100% in the number of searches during the period from March 23 to June 1, 2021 vs. The same period of 2020.
Eight of the 10 most searched routes are international; The highest number of searches is the Mexico City-New York route with 478% growth, followed by the Mexico City-Los Angeles routes with 317% more searches and the Cancun-New York route, which grew 438% year-on-year against year, as well as that of Mexico City-Madrid with a 140% increase and that of Mexico City-Chicago that grew 259%.
In general, the average stay sought by Mexicans was 14 days for the most part, followed by 7 and 4 days, in that order. Interestingly, 34% of the total stays are 15 days or more and 7% represent reservations of more than 30 days at the destination.
