The Guatemalan flag carrier announced that starting in August it will start new flights to the cities of Cancun and Tapachula, expanding its portfolio of destinations in the region


In order to facilitate and improve Guatemala's connection with southern Mexico for tourism and commerce, TAG Airlines, Guatemala's flag carrier, announced that as of August it will start new flight routes to the cities of Cancun and Tapachula, expanding its portfolio of destinations in the region.

Cancun is a gateway for world tourism, mainly from Europe and Asia, so through this connection it will be facilitated, through international wholesalers and tour operators, to include Guatemala in their product catalogs. This will allow potential tourists to know the wide options, offers and attractions that our country offers and the opportunity to learn about the different tourism segments of adventure, ecotourism, health, culture, among others.

For its part, Tapachula, due to its geographical location, is a strategic point to reactivate tourism and local economies offering the possibility to the business sector, families and friends, a transportation solution with accessible schedules, shorter flight times and competitive rates. , helping to activate the economy and trade between both countries.

As of October 18, the frequency of flights to both destinations will be extended, from Monday to Sunday, at the times described.

Julio Gamero, CEO of TAG Airlines indicated “For us, starting these routes is another step in our growth and allows us to contribute to the economic development of the country by having better connectivity. In addition, it is a great opportunity to do business and reactivate responsible tourism to Guatemala. We reiterate our commitment to continue working and providing our clients with options that are safely adapted to their needs”.

For his part, Mynor Cordón, general director of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute -INGUAT-, said “We are pleased that TAG Airlines is expanding its connection frequencies, this time with southern Mexico, contributing to the promotion and connectivity of the World region. Maya, which is a unique product at an international level, where nature and archeology are offered, which is part of the trend of travel today to open places and broadens the options to get to Guatemala in this stage of economic recovery ”.

It is worth mentioning that TAG Airlines recently received the ISSA operational safety certification, which it obtained after its participation in the program of the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association -ALTA- and the International Air Transport Association -IATA-. This achievement allowed them to join the group of companies that participate in ALTA, whose purpose is to join forces to facilitate the development of safer, more efficient and environmentally friendly air transport.
