The President and CEO of the airline thanked the Honduran President for his commitment to promoting competitiveness and development of the industry

Volaris -the Mexican ultra-low-cost airline that operates in Mexico, the United States, Central America and soon South America- and the Government of Honduras signed a Letter of Commitment to formalize the start of air operations in the Central American country.

Enrique Beltranena, President and CEO of Volaris, recognized the vision of the Honduran Government by being the first to propose and approve a Law to Promote Low-Cost Air Transportation. “This decision is fundamental for the reactivation of the industry, as well as one of the markets with the most connections to Mexico and the United States. For this reason, I am proud to announce that we will initially open the San Salvador-San Pedro Sula route and we will be the only low-cost airline to operate it, with connecting flights to Central America, Washington DC, New York and Los Angeles in the United States, from El Salvador. ”.

Honduras is an attractive market for Volaris Costa Rica due to its similarity to those it currently operates and given the potential it offers for business development to different destinations in Central America and the United States. According to data from the Migration Policy Institute of the United States, Honduras is the third country with the highest number of migrants to that country (18.6 percent).

Volaris Costa Rica began operations in El Salvador in 2017 and, since then, has transported more than 600 thousand passengers on five routes: two to Central America (Guatemala and San José, Costa Rica) and three to the United States (Los Angeles, New York -JFK and Washington-Dulles). This is the first time that the airline arrives in Honduras, which represents a commitment to regional air connectivity from that country.

“I want to thank President Juan Orlando Hernández for his willingness to advance and improve the air competitiveness of Honduras by passing modern legislation with clear rules that will allow the rapid growth of the country's industry and connectivity, as well as the construction of a modern air terminal. of international level in Palmerola. At Volaris we want to be allies of post-pandemic economic growth, as we are capable of generating greater connectivity at the lowest cost and bringing family and friends closer together, which will translate into significant growth in air traffic in the region, ”concluded Beltranena.

The formal ceremony, led by the President of the Republic of Honduras, Lawyer Juan Orlando Hernández, and the President and CEO of Volaris, Enrique Beltranena Mejicano, was held at the corporate offices of Volaris in Mexico City, and featured the participation as honorary witnesses of the Minister of Tourism of Honduras, Nicole Marrder and Ambassador Lisandro Rosales Banegas, Secretary of State in the Offices of Foreign Relations.
