The Mayan Train route will offer various tourist attractions in its 19 stations
In its 1,500-kilometer route, it will connect the states of Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Campeche, Chiapas and Tabasco
The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, affirmed that the Mayan Train is considered one of the most innovative projects promoted by the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, since it will allow users to provide connectivity and quality services national and international, at the same time that it will stimulate inclusive tourism whose benefits will be distributed throughout the five states that make up the Mayan Zone of Mexico.
He pointed out that the Mayan Train through its 1,500-kilometer route will connect the states of Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Campeche, Chiapas and Tabasco, where you can visit some of the most iconic sites in terms of Nature Tourism and Cultural Tourism, like Mérida, Cancun, Chetumal, Campeche and Palenque.
The connectivity of its 19 stations will allow tourists to visit any of the entities of the Mayan Train route, with the opportunity to choose a trip and a stay according to their motivations, such as Cultural Tourism, Nature Tourism or complement your activities after a business stay.
He argued that the Mayan Train route, which can be traveled in any direction, and the 62 options of one and up to three night tours that it will provide, will give visitors the chance to experience the Mayan region like never before.
Everything will start in Cancun Airport, the main visitor distribution center for the Mayan Train.
From there, the tourist will be able to arrive at the Puerto Morelos station, where the Ruta de los Cenotes opens as a great opportunity to experience the adventure of the underground rivers; as well as snorkeling in the area of the Arrecifes National Park, with a vast diversity of marine fauna and flora.
Later, the Playa del Carmen station is the ideal one to visit another of the jewels of the Mexican Caribbean: Cozumel, with its Chankanaab natural park and the lagoon of the same name, where more than 60 species of tropical fish, corals and crustaceans live; in addition to visiting the Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park.
At Tulum Station and Magical Town, the visitor will have the opportunity to discover one of the most important archaeological sites in Quintana Roo and the only one facing the sea. The perfect complement is a visit to the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, which in turn is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Felipe Carrillo Puerto Station is the heart of the history of the Caste War. Living with the Mayan community and learning about their way of life and ancestral traditions is the experience offered by Kíichpam K'áax and a visit to Tihosuco, one of the oldest towns in Quintana Roo.
For the station and Magical Town of Bacalar, magic is represented by the Fort of San Felipe and the Route of its 100 murals. The traveler will discover natural wonders through a tour of the Laguna de 7 Colores, a walk that is complemented with the experience of beach, sea and sun in Mahahual.
The Chetumal station, capital of Quintana Roo, is discovered through a tour of its monuments and gastronomy; the sculptural corridor is perfect to start and continue along the Río Hondo Canal and the archaeological sites of Dzibanché and Kinichná.
The wealth of the Mayan World and the exuberance of nature come together in the archaeological zone of Calakmul, declared a cultural and natural asset, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which can be enjoyed at the Xpujil station.
To enter the imposing Lacandon Jungle and discover one of the Natural Patrimonies of Humanity, you arrive through the station and Magical Town of Palenque. Its impressive archaeological zone, the Agua Azul waterfalls and the Misol-Ha waterfalls are obligatory stops. The visit to the Magical Town of Tapijulapa, in Tabasco, is its best complement.
The Boca del Cerro station is where the Usumacinta Alto River ends and the Pantanos de Centla begin. Admiring this beauty from the Usumacinta Bridge is a unique experience. This is the best season to get to know the Lacandon culture of Chiapas. The inhabitants of Naha and Top Che will guide the visitor through nature, their culture and millenary worldview.
The archaeological zone of Moral-Reforma and the ecological reserve of the Cascades are the protagonists of the El Triunfo station. From here you can get to the Magic Town of Palizada, which is located in the state of Campeche.
The inhabitants of Zacil-Ha Isla de Pájaros will receive tourists at the Escárcega station, to take them by canoe through the Laguna de Terminos and the Magic Town of Isla Aguada.
For stories of ships, seas and pirates, the San Francisco de Campeche station is the one. Its Historic Center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is where this cultural adventure begins and is combined with the archaeological zone of Edzná and its 25 square kilometers of religious and residential buildings.
Mérida also has its station. Stately city, with its Paseo Montejo and its Historic Center; the Puuc Route, with its five archaeological zones that include the Uxmal jewel; as well as the new Magic Town of Maní, where the visitor will have the opportunity to taste the best dish in Poc-Chuc.
The Magic Town of Izamal or “City of the Three Cultures”, is also part of the route, which was painted ocher yellow to maintain the eternal light, as well as its Convent of San Antonio de Padua, from the 16th century; Hacienda and archaeological zone of Aké, are the must-see points that the tourist can visit when getting off the Mayan Train at this terminal.
Chichén Itzá, an archaeological zone, a World Heritage site, of which the Kukulkán pyramid is considered one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World, will be an obligatory part of the tour. The Yokdzonot cenote and the Balancanché Caves are just two of the main attractions for visitors.
The following point is located in the Magical Town of Valladolid, a strategic place to visit the archaeological zone of Ek Balam, Río Lagartos and the Sac Aua and X´Canché cenotes, as well as the city itself and its Historic Center.
We are approaching the end of the circuit. At the Nuevo-Xcan station, the visitor will be able to marvel at the Isla de la Pasión and Isla de los Pájaros, a prelude to reaching Holbox; as well as the archaeological zone of Cobá and the Indigenous Paradises of Ta'akbil-Ja and El Corchal.
The route closes with the Cancun Hotel Zone station, where the visitor can visit the Magic Town of Isla Mujeres, with its Hacienda Mundaca, a treasure from the 19th century, its El Garrafón reef park; and the White Island, where the Chacmuchuch lagoon is located.
Thus, the secretary Torruco Marqués reiterated that the 62 tourist routes, which will be offered as soon as this priority project is launched, will allow visitors to know and live new experiences such as those mentioned above and many others.
