Innovation, sustainability and multi-destination offer, new axes of tourism in Colombia

During a week and before a group of expert exhibitors in tourism, 64 Colombian businessmen participated in an event on new trends in the sector to respond to new demands

Tourism goes through several transformations due to the situation and as an effect, the tourist chain in Colombia has begun to prepare to offer new experiences that attract the eyes of international travelers. It is for this reason that ProColombia invited 64 companies, 37 from the vacation segment and 27 from the meetings industry, to train and make the country more competitive compared to other markets.

The activity took place in Mérida, Mexico, and was led by Incubatour, a Mexican consultancy specialized in offering training for the industry. “This was a great crusade that we organized from ProColombia for tourism companies to begin planning aimed at innovation, the development of multi-destination products, implementation of technology and digital transformation in tourism and involve sustainability and regenerative tourism in their business models. business”, explained Flavia Santoro, president of ProColombia.

In fact, according to a recent study by the entity on the post-pandemic tourist, digital tools and sustainability applied to tourist experiences are some of the factors that are shaping the new traveler. "Our country has been adapting to these new trends since 2020 thanks to a safe reactivation plan for the industry and today we can say that more and more entrepreneurs are understanding the importance of adapting their tourism offer and services", added the official.

Among the topics exposed to this entourage of Colombian entrepreneurs were neotourism: trends and innovation, a new dimension in the offer; the demands of new consumers and the importance of data analysis; bases for strategic planning: vocation, identity and offer of a tourist destination; and sustainability, circular economy and productive chains in tourist destinations, among others.

Some participating businessmen highlighted the content that was presented to them, especially to adapt it to their offer. According to Ricardo Niño from Ecopradera Tours of San José del Guaviare: "We learned to make multi-destination products, improving our quality of service and, above all, training ourselves to provide better, unique and innovative experiences for the coming years".

For her part, María Gutiérrez, from Foodies (a tour operator specialized in gastronomic experiences): “It is a wonder that we, who are new to the meetings industry, have come here to strengthen ourselves and learn about this segment that is very important to us. in the face of reactivation”.

The group of exhibitors were of high level such as Tony Yarto, CEO Incubatour; Miguel Andrés Hernández, Vice Minister of Tourism of Yucatán; Ruth Aguilar, business intelligence at Incubatour; Benjamín Jiménez, director of strategic planning of the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo; Martha Luna, public relations coordinator of the Yucatán International Congress Center; Marcela Heredia, CEO of Conscious Energy; and Eduardo Yarto, Minister of Tourism of Zacatecas.
