The Sustainable & Social Tourism Summit begins today
The fifth edition of the event will take place in Cancun until September 9
The pandemic has taught us many lessons, including that we are at a crucial moment and we need to renew the tourism sector. Aware of this, this is one of the central themes of the Sustainable & Social Tourism Summit, the most important sustainable and socially responsible tourism event in Latin America, which will take place from September 6 to 9 and this year reaches its 5th . edition.
“The event, which for the first time will be carried out in a hybrid way, will focus on the reinvention of tourism that is so necessary on a global level. Rebuilding, rediscovering, regenerating, recovering tourism, will be the central pillars of the forum this year ”, announced Vicente Ferreyra, President of the Organizing Committee of the event. "Speakers from countries such as the United Kingdom, Brazil, Papua New Guinea, Italy, Japan, Spain, Canada or the Dominican Republic, will share their vision of the issue that concerns us," he concluded.
During the event, conferences, tables and panels will be held, as well as alternate sessions on innovation, corporate social responsibility in the union, regenerative tourism, financial opportunities, the work of the private sector, investments, technological revolution and tourism, among others. In addition, on Wednesday, September 8, the Mesoamerican Reef Day will be commemorated, during which topics such as the international experience in tourism and reefs, tourism and indigenous communities, tourism in the ecoregion and the importance of networks will be discussed. of collaboration in the same, technology, blockchain and NFTs, as well as good practices.
Personalities such as Natalia Bayona, Director of Innovation, Education and Investments of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Anna Pollock, founder of Conscious Travel (United Kingdom); Anna Spenceley, Sustainable Tourism Expert (Papua New Guinea); Kei Shibata, co-founder and CEO of Venture Republic Group - LINE TRAVEL jp and Trip 101 (Japan), Simone Venturini, Tourism Advisor to the Venice Commune (Italy), David Simmons, President of the EarthCheck Global Research Institute (New Zealand) and Jake Kheel, Author and documentary maker on sustainability (Dominican Republic) will be part of the program this year. Additionally, and given the importance of having the second most important barrier reef in the world in this region, the event will dedicate a day to the Mesoamerican Reef, a shared resource between Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico.
The headquarters of the summit is the Convention Center of the Paradisus Cancun hotel, by Meliá, it is worth noting that the venue will have all the national and global biosafety protocols, and the Organizing Committee is in continuous communication with the authorities to make a safe event for participants.
