WTTC responds to latest UK Government announcement
The World Travel and Tourism Council has just published a statement celebrating the elimination of the sanitary traffic light system
Julia Simpson, President and CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), said: “The travel and tourism sector has been rocked by the pandemic that has lost 62 million jobs worldwide. We are pleased to see the back of an illogical traffic light system that caused confusion and distress for commuters. This move to ease restrictions and open more key destinations will help restore consumer confidence and get the UK moving again".
“We are also pleased to see that the government has listened to our calls, that double-vaccinated travelers no longer need pre-departure testing, and that antigen testing will replace expensive PCRs before the end of the busy mid-season holiday season. period".
“While this is certainly a step in the right direction, for the UK to be a true leader, the government should adopt a system based on the risk of people, not countries. Red-listing entire countries is illogical, if you can keep the UK safe by checking a person's status and allow completely criticized people to travel almost anywhere in the world safely".
