The airline has implemented Traveler ID for Safe Travel to verify documentation directly through the mobile application when travelers check-in online for flights from Schengen zones without risk

Travelers may have taken self-check-in for granted before COVID-19. The ability to check-in from the comfort of your home and move easily through the airport checkpoints without waiting lines is a vital element in reducing difficulties and waiting time at the airport. However, the need to verify health documentation, due to the requirements established due to COVID-19, has posed a challenge for this fluid process.

To meet this challenge, Lufthansa has implemented Traveler ID for Safe Travel, an Amadeus solution that makes mobile check-in possible again, allowing passengers to verify their health documentation directly through the airline's app. Amadeus technology is capable of processing QR codes from the European Union COVID Digital Certificate (EU DCC). This allows travelers to scan proof of vaccination or test results required for travel that meet the EU DCC standard during mobile check-in. In this way, the boarding pass is issued automatically without the need for further physical checks at the airport and this option is now possible on all 2,000 Lufthansa weekly flights from Schengen zones without risk.

Additionally, Traveler ID for Safe Travel is fully integrated with CENTOGENE, Lufthansa's partner for medical testing services in Germany. This means that travelers who book their PCR or antigen test through CENTOGENE can also scan a QR code when checking in through the airline app and the documentation will be processed automatically through the Amadeus connection with CENTOGENE.

Before passengers are offered the possibility to scan or upload their health documentation, Traveler ID for Safe Travel checks the requirements of that particular trip against the regulations of the country, which means that only passengers who need to present the health documentation.

In addition, Lufthansa is using the Amadeus Airport Companion App, which means that airline staff at the airport can scan passenger boarding passes via an iPad, giving them flexibility to manage passenger flows throughout the terminal. Lufthansa agents will also soon be able to use the Airport Companion App to scan and process health documentation, allowing airline staff to update passenger information whenever they need it throughout the journey, not limited to check-in counters. billing.

"We are delighted to bring the convenience and efficiency of self-service check-in back to our travelers on specific routes, working together with Amadeus. It's time to get a smooth journey back on track for passengers, we know people long to get back on the road. skies and they need the right technology to feel safe doing it, "says Dr. Christian Pöselt, Head of Passenger Service Systems at Lufthansa Group.

"The increased demand for flights shows that the population wants to catch up on their travels, as well as in many other areas of personal life, after the restrictions that we have had to live in recent months. We are looking forward to working with our partners to create innovative concepts and support air travel safety. The fully digitized test results delivery system that we have implemented in our processes since the beginning of our SARS-CoV-2 testing activities, builds the optimal foundation to achieve this goal, "says Dr. Michael Mehler, Head of Covid Business Unit at CENTOGENE.

"It is exciting to have brought the benefits of Traveler ID for Safe Travel to Lufthansa. By once again enabling a self-service check-in experience, this innovative health verification technology helps enable a smooth journey for passengers," says Christian Warneck, VP, Safe Travel Ecosystem, Amadeus. "Through our Safe Travel Ecosystem, we are working tirelessly with our customers and partners like Lufthansa and CENTOGENE to remove friction from passenger travel and support travel recovery."

Currently Traveler ID for Safe Travel is underway with eleven airlines and more clients will be announced soon. Collaboration and digital connectivity with global and national partners are critical to the solution. Traveler ID's health and digital identity verification capabilities are also relevant to other customer groups, such as hotels and airports.
