ICT launches “Faces of tourism” initiative to celebrate the World Tourism Day

The communication initiative based on photographs, audiovisual materials and two Podcasts, celebrate an industry that brings development, social, economic and cultural progress to Costa Rica

On the occasion of the celebration of World Tourism Day, the Costa Rican Tourism Institute launches this Monday the communication initiative "Faces of tourism" made up of seven stories of dedication, tenacity, resilience and tireless search of members of the sector to make their dreams come true .

In addition to this series of photographs, the initiative will highlight the legacy of pioneers in the tourism industry in Costa Rica through two podcasts in its “Esencia turismo” series.
This year, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) established as its celebratory motto “Tourism for inclusive growth” to highlight the industry's ability to generate growth without barriers or limitations, as well as the role that tourism plays in promoting respect, bringing people closer together, generating opportunities and jobs for millions of women and men in the world.
"On such an important date for all of us who make up the tourism industry, I wish to congratulate the women and men of Costa Rica, those faces of tourism that work day by day to continue positioning our country as a wellness destination, which allows reconnect with what is important in life, where you can enjoy gastronomy, crafts and multiple outdoor activities.
“Tourism is synonymous with integration, inclusion, sustainability and a motor for development, involving not only the people who visit us but also those who serve tourists to make them feel at home. In the last 40 years, tourism has gone from being a relatively small activity in the Costa Rican economy to becoming a true economic engine, which forces us to continue to ensure the progress and development of the industry, ”said Gustavo J. Segura , Rector Minister of Tourism.
For two weeks, an ICT production team visited Puerto Jiménez, Sierpe, Caño Negro, Puerto Viejo, Limón, and Tárcoles to photograph and video interview members of the Costa Rican tourism sector, as part of the first stage of the “Rostros del Sightseeing". The second edition will be launched next year with representatives from Guanacaste, La Fortuna, Sarapiquí and Valle Central.
The seven photographs of the first stage collect the stories behind the human faces of tour guides, entrepreneurs and small businessmen, their images will be published on the social networks of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute on Facebook, Instagram (oficial_ict) and on the YouTube channel.
