MP and INGUAT sign an addendum to the agreement to strengthen the criminal prosecution of crimes committed against foreign visitors
Guatemala has an immense natural and cultural wealth that has made it a very attractive destination for tourism, however, the image of the country can be affected by some criminal act, which can cloud the efforts that the country makes to attract visitors. more visitors.
From that account, the authorities of the Public Ministry and the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism signed an addendum to the Cooperation Agreement between the Public Ministry and the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism, for the Attention, Protection and Criminal Prosecution of Crimes Committed against Foreign Tourists with the object of establishing inter-institutional cooperation mechanisms, which has been in force since September 2014.
In order to provide an immediate, effective and timely response to the needs of the Guatemalan population, the Attorney General and Head of the Public Ministry, Dr. María Consuelo Porras Argueta, promotes strategic actions in the fight against this crime, for which the Section Prosecutor's Office is implemented. of Crimes against Foreign Tourists and Tax Agencies in the departments of Sacatepéquez and Petén.
Said agencies will have a physical space at the Inguat headquarters in Guatemala City; Flores, Petén and La Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez.
With these actions, mechanisms of inter-institutional cooperation are established for the adequate attention, protection and criminal prosecution of crimes committed against foreign tourists and they show that through the union of efforts the country is committed to the promotion and development of tourism, with in order to ensure that the trip and experience of tourists is positive and recommendable, guaranteeing a timely response to the needs of justice, in order to strengthen a culture of peace, respect and legality.
