Yucatán receives Tianguis Turístico 2021 with the highest standards in biosafety
October 15, 2021

The event will be held at the Yucatán Siglo XXI Convention and Exhibition Center from November 16 to 19

One of the states with great advantages for the development of the meetings industry is Yucatán due to its well-known geographical location, excellent lodging infrastructure, great air, sea and land connectivity, and of course, for offering business travelers a wide range of services. offer of tourist attractions such as beaches, magical towns, world-renowned archaeological sites and unrivaled typical and contemporary gastronomy.

"We are talking about a destination that is prepared to receive any event, since it has all kinds of supply services that will facilitate their logistics and planning, such as venues, hotels, car rental companies, tourist guides, banquet companies, DMC's (Destination Management Company), among many others; who have also been trained and certified to implement strict hygiene protocols that today make us a destination with high standards in biosafety "said Michelle Fridman, head of the Yucatan Tourism Development Secretariat (Sefotur).

In particular, Mérida is currently one of the seven cities in the country with the necessary capacity to carry out large-scale events. This year, one of those events is the 45th edition of the fair that will mark the rebirth of tourism in Mexico: El Tianguis Turístico 2021.

The venue that will host it is  the Yucatán Siglo XXI Convention and Exhibition Center , considered one of the best in the country, in whose space it will receive, from November 16 to 19, exhibiting companies, buyers from different parts of the world, with whom they hope to exceed 40 thousand business appointments. This convention center is characterized by its strategic location, being 20 minutes from the Historic Center and only 10 minutes from the main hotels in the city.

It is important to note that as a result of the pandemic, the Ministry of Tourism Development (Sefotur) of Yucatán developed a comprehensive program to generate healthy environments for the benefit of the population and visitors called "Certificate of Good Sanitary Practices Yucatán", action with the which the state stood out for being the first destination in the republic to implement these actions that included service providers linked to meeting tourism, this in order to attract events and benefit local supply companies.

This certificate is part of the objectives presented in the Tourism Recovery Plan prepared and presented by the Sefotur Undersecretariat for Tourism Development and aims to provide health certainty to the value chain of the tourism sector and inspire confidence in visitors, but above everything, protect the health of travelers and Yucatecans.

The methodology was endorsed by the Ministry of Health of the state of Yucatán (SSY) with the support of experts certified by the Federal Sectur and has the approval of the Ministry of Tourism of the state of Quintana Roo and the support of the World Travel and Tourism Council - WTTC with the Safe Travels seal and the Autonomous University of Yucatán.

In this sense, Fridman emphasized that those who attend the Tianguis Turístico can be sure that the destination is ready and trained before this new normal, so that their stay is safe and productive. He added that this is probably the most complicated edition in history, “but it is also the most important and it means a lot for Yucatan, for Mexico and for the world because it shows that we are on our feet and that even in the face of adversity we will carry out in the best way and we will show that Yucatán is a destination ready for big events, ready for tourism, that did not bend in the face of the crisis, but on the contrary, it became stronger. This tianguis is a new era of tourism: friendly, efficient and responsible and begins in Yucatán ”.

It should be noted that, from October 2018 to August 2021, an accumulated 163,264 participants have been registered in 397 meeting tourism events, which represent an estimated economic benefit of 1,795 million pesos.

Other venues that are part of the offer in terms of meetings in the state are also:
