The initiative seeks to contribute to the process of equal competition within the tourism sector

The Costa Rican Tourism Institute set up a web platform through which non-traditional accommodations offered in the national territory can be registered. The tool complies with the provision established in the Law for the regulation of non-traditional accommodation through digital platforms (N. 20 865).
The platform contains the information about this function and presents a description of how to register, requirements and how to complete the form. It is aimed at intermediaries and those who provide services independently.
The ICT, in order to contribute to the process of equal competition within the tourism sector of accommodation companies, wants to guarantee with this platform, the proper development of this market niche with regulations that also guarantee the protection of tourists who prefer the collaborative economy, as this type of accommodation is known.
The Director of Tourism Management, Gustavo Alvarado pointed out that “it is the first time that a mandatory registration of companies has been established before the ICT and it will be easily accessible for the registration of those interested. Likewise, it will provide support and follow-up to what is established by law so that the companies that register, comply with the approved regulations and that tourists feel more confidence when using non-traditional lodging services”.
