The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, reported that from December 18 to January 9, 2022, the arrival of 8 million 254 thousand tourists to hotel rooms is expected


The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, released the estimates for the winter vacation period 2021, which includes three weeks: from December 18 to January 9, 2022.

It reported that a hotel occupancy is expected nationwide of 54.6 percent on average, this is 3.7 percentage points less compared to winter 2019, when 58.3 percent of general occupancy was registered.

He indicated that the arrival of 8 million 254 thousand tourists is expected to hotel rooms and that this winter season is approaching the level of tourist activity of winter 2019, with a recovery of 93.7 percent in the arrival of tourists, just minus 6.3 percent. one hundred, equivalent to 558 thousand tourists.

He added that a consumption for accommodation of 16 thousand 797 million pesos is expected for this season, minus 10.9 percent, since in 2019 18 thousand 862 million pesos were reached.

He also highlighted that they foresee a consumption of tourist services of 173 thousand 066 million pesos. While in 2019 it reached 195 thousand 511 million pesos, which represents a reduction equivalent to 11.4 percent.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) asserted that the percentage of occupancy estimated in some destinations in the country are: Mexico City, with 48.6 percent; Monterrey, 48.8 percent; Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, 38.2 percent; and Zacatecas, with 55 percent.

Regarding beach destinations, the Riviera Nayarit (Nuevo Vallarta) is forecast to be located with 81.4 percent; Puerto Vallarta, 77.6 percent; Cancun, 76.6 percent; Riviera Maya, 75.2 percent; Los Cabos, 78.1 percent; and Acapulco, with 61.2 percent.

With regard to Pueblos Mágicos, Tulum would have 77 percent hotel occupancy; Isla Mujeres, 61.8 percent; San Cristóbal de las Casas, 54.5 percent; and Palenque, 45.8 percent.

Secretary Torruco Marqués explained that, according to the Official Airline Guide (OAG), for the winter period indicated, the schedule of international flights to Mexico is 13 thousand 506, with 2 million 257 thousand seats, equivalent to an estimated economic spill of 2,517 million dollars.

Finally, he pointed out that the schedule of domestic flights is 27,278, with 4 million 439 thousand seats, which represents a spill of 452 million 497 thousand dollars.
