Secretary of Tourism of Mexico highlighted the recovery of tourism during 2021

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, reported that the country's tourism sector is in clear recovery.
It is estimated to reach an average annual hotel occupancy of 45.9 percent, standing 19.9 percentage points above 2020.
It is also expected that the participation of tourism GDP to the Brutonacional Domestic Product will resume above 8.3 percent in 2022.

Likewise, a consumption per accommodation of 12 thousand 266 million dollars, this is 12.1 percent more than in 2020 that reached 10 thousand 944 million dollars, 33.7 percent less than in 2019.
He pointed out that a tourist consumption of 127 thousand 142 million dollars is calculated, 9.4 percent more than at the end of 2020 that reached 116 thousand 236 million dollars, equivalent to 33.8 percent less than in 2019 in which 175 were registered thousand 658 million dollars.
He added that an estimated arrival of 31 million international tourists to Mexico, 6.8 million more than in 2020, which is equivalent to an increase of 28.1 percent. Last year, 24.2 million international travelers arrived, with a reduction of 46.1 percent compared to 2019.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) indicated that it is estimated that the income of foreign currency by international visitors will reach 18 thousand 428 million dollars, 7 thousand 400 million more than in 2020, which would represent an increase of 67.6 percent. Last year it closed with 10,996 million dollars, a decrease of 55.3 percent compared to 2019.
Secretary Torruco Marqués concluded that from the improvement in traveler confidence, derived from the application of vaccines in different regions and countries, as well as other measures to contain Covid-19 and the strategies for the recovery of tourism in Mexico, it is expected that in 2021 the participation of tourism GDP in the national GDP will improve, reaching 7.1 percent in the national economy and by 2022 the participation will resume above 8.3 percent. In 2019 it was 8.6 percent and in 2020 it was 6.7 percent.
