Volaris reports December 2021 traffic results
The airline has achieved 27% growth compared to 2019, with a load factor of 86%
Volaris (the “Company”) (NYSE: VLRS and BMV: VOLAR), the ultra-low-cost airline operating in Mexico, the United States, Central and South America, reports its preliminary traffic results for December 2021.
In December 2021, demand in the domestic and international market for Volaris increased 34.9% and 10.8%, compared to December 2019, respectively. The Company capitalized on the strong market demand to add capacity (ASMs), both nationally (+ 35.5%) and internationally (+ 20.8%), while maintaining a high load factor (85.9%). In December 2021, Volaris carried 2.6 million passengers, 31% more than pre-pandemic levels.
For the first quarter of 2022, the capacity that we currently have for sale represents an ASM growth of approximately 3% compared to the fourth quarter of 2021, which implies an ASM growth of about 53% compared to the first quarter of 2021. However, as we have demonstrated since the onset of the pandemic, we will continue to actively manage capacity and react accordingly if we see a deterioration in demand in our markets from the Omicron variant.
Commenting on the December traffic figures, Volaris CEO and CEO Enrique Beltranena said: "We closed the year with solid results, as we continue to establish adequate levels of capacity to meet the strong demand from our main markets for Leisure Travel and Visiting Friends and Family (VFR). "
