The figure has been revealed by the Secretary of Tourism Miguel Torruco Marqués

When presenting the results of the main tourism indicators, the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, reported that foreign exchange income from international visitors was 19 thousand 795.6 million dollars, this is 80.0 percent more than 2020, and only 19.4 percent below the 24 thousand 573.2 million dollars raised in 2019.

The Secretary of Tourism highlighted that last year 55.3 million international visitors entered the country, registering a growth of 8.2 percent compared to 2020; being 43.2 percent away from reaching the 2019 figure.

During 2021, 14.6 million inbound tourists arrived by air, this is 75.3 percent more compared to 2020, lacking only 25.6 percent to reach the inbound tourists captured in 2019, Torruco Marqués said.

He added that the average expenditure of airborne tourists in 2021 showed a growth of 11.9 percent compared to 2020, registering 1,110.2 dollars, and exceeding the average expenditure of 2019, which was 1,001.4 dollars, an increase of 10.9 percent.

The head of the Tourism Secretariat (Sectur) stressed that in 2021, 31.9 million international tourists entered the country, which represents 31.3 percent more than those who arrived in 2020 and 29.2 percent of those registered in 2019.

Regarding foreign exchange income from international tourists, Torruco Marqués reported that in 2021 it was 18 thousand 517 million dollars, 87.8 percent more compared to 2020 and 17.2 percent below what was captured in 2019.

The head of Sectur added that the balance of the balance for international visitors in 2021 was 14 thousand 613.8 million dollars. This is 7 thousand 92.7 million dollars more than what was registered in 2020, which means an increase of 94.3 percent; while, to reach the captured balance of 14 thousand 692.3 million dollars of 2019, 0.5 percent is missing.
