Preliminary ACI data for the month of December 2021 indicate that Peru's airport traffic ended 36% lower than in 2019

The International Council of Airports in Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) and Peruvian airports urge the government to eliminate operational and capacity restrictions with the aim of accelerating the recovery of air transport in the country.

Preliminary ACI data for the month of December 2021 indicate that Peru's airport traffic ended 36% lower than in 2019, while in the rest of the region the drop was 18%, which indicates that Peru recovers more slowly than the rest of Latin America. The year 2021 ended with a traffic drop of 53% in Peru and 40% in the region as a whole.

Peruvian airports have been very responsible in implementing all the health protocols recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Airports Council International (ACI) and the main international health organizations. Multiple studies have shown that the most effective way to combat the COVID-19 pandemic is through the use of masks and vaccination.

Air transport is essential for the economic and social development of Peru. The pandemic has severely punished air transport and tourism and it is important to eliminate any measure that delays the recovery of these vital sectors for the country's economy.
