Sectur presents the expectations of tourism in Mexico for 2022
The Secretary of Tourism Miguel Torruco Marqués indicated that at the end of this year, tourism consumption will be more than 146 billion dollars, 12% more than in 2021
The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, presented the expectations for the end of the year 2022, of the main indicators of tourist activity in Mexico, in a conservative scenario.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) said that an average annual hotel occupancy of 54.3% is estimated, standing 12.9 percentage points above the year 2021.
Regarding the extra hotel offer, through digital platforms, the forecast is that in 2022 11 million spaces will be offered, which means an additional 2.7%.
He commented that regarding tourist consumption, it is estimated that this year it will be 146 thousand 886 million dollars, this is 12.3% more than at the end of 2021.
Torruco Marqués pointed out that tourism consumption for lodging, which represents the total spending of nationals and foreigners, will be 13 thousand 374 million dollars, this is 16.5% more than in 2021.
He added that an arrival of international tourists to Mexico is estimated at 40 million 37 thousand, 8.2 million more than in 2021, an increase of 25.6%.
The Secretary of Tourism pointed out that in terms of foreign exchange income from international visitors, it is expected to reach 24 thousand 250 million dollars, this is 4 thousand 456 million more than in 2021, an increase of 22.5%; a figure almost similar to that of 2019, only 350 million dollars below the historical figure for that year.
For 2022, an average expenditure per international visitor is estimated at 379.8 dollars, which represents an increase of 6.1% compared to 2021, highlighted the head of Sectur.
Torruco Marqués indicated that the participation of Tourism GDP in the national economy decreased 1.9 percentage points, going from 8.6% to 6.7%, in the years 2019 and 2020, respectively.
With the results of the Tourism Satellite Account to be published in December 2022, it is expected that the participation of the Tourism GDP in the National GDP will improve, reaching 7.1% in the national economy, and by the end of 2022, the participation above 8.3%, just three tenths below 2019.
