US travel agency sales up 187% year over year
A new ARC report reveals that total passenger trips increased by 25%. Domestic domestic trips increased by 21% and international trips by 33%
Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC) today released data showing that air ticket sales from ARC-accredited travel agencies totaled $3.6 billion in January 2022, a 187% year-over-year increase from January 2021 .* The total amount of sales net sales marks a 17% monthly increase from December 2021, when sales reached $3.1 billion.
"As we look ahead to spring travel, some of the historically popular destinations are showing booking numbers closer to pre-pandemic years and in some cases exceeding those levels."
Month-over-month, January 2022 results showed:
Total passenger trips increased 25%.
US domestic travel increased 21%.
International travel is up 33%.
“The air travel data for January is encouraging. We expect a continued recovery as more governments lift travel mandates and restrictions due to the rollback of the omicron variant, as well as a rebound in corporate ticketing,” said Steve Solomon, vice president of global sales, marketing, operations and customer experience at ARC. "As we look ahead to spring travel, some of the historically popular destinations are showing booking numbers closer to pre-pandemic years and in some cases exceeding those levels."
Total passenger trips settled by ARC in January 2022 increased by 106% year-on-year, from 7.9 million to 16.4 million. International travel jumped 120% to 5.4 million, while US domestic travel nearly doubled its year-over-year total to 11 million. The average price of a roundtrip ticket in the US in January 2022 was $409, an increase of 22% from $335 in January 2021.
January 2022, EMD sales increased 185% year over year to $7,187,871. EMD transactions increased 174% to 138,080 during the same period.
