The Tocumen International Airport mobilized 1,067,733 passengers during the month of February, which represents 691,551 thousand additional passengers compared to the same period during the year 2021.
This figure represents a significant increase in the movement of passengers compared to last year, despite the appearance of the Omicron variant, to which was added the cancellation of flights due to the persistence of extreme weather conditions in the northern hemisphere.
“2022 will be a key year for the airline industry. The easing of mobility restrictions, the global advancement of vaccination and the recovery of confidence to travel will sustain a robust recovery rate, after two difficult years for the air transport industry," said Raffoul Arab, general manager of the International Airport. of Tocumen.
Destinations and markets
According to data provided by the company's Statistics Department, in February Tocumen maintained its direct connections to 76 destinations, through 19 airlines.
Passenger transit through Tocumen during the month of February 2022 is led by users from South America, which represented 45%, North America 29%, the Caribbean 11%, Central America 10%, and Europe 5%.
During the month of February 2022, 9,727 aircraft arrival and takeoff operations were carried out. Of the total number of passengers who used the Tocumen terminal, 74% were connecting passengers.
Domestic traffic and charter flights from Canada, in the regional terminals managed by the Tocumen International Airport, recorded 16,551 travelers and 1,361 aircraft operations in February.
New airlines and destinations
As of March 27, the Lufthansa group restarts its operations from the Tocumen international airport through the Eurowings Discover airline, while for the coming weeks Copa Airlines announces the start of operations to new destinations in Colombia and Venezuela.
