Despite the difficult situation that the sector has gone through in the pandemic period, representatives of the country's 3 concessioned airports highlighted the positive impacts that the development of the sector has had on the economy


Within the framework of the visit to Ecuador of the new president of the International Airports Council for Latin America, ACI-LAC, Ezequiel Barrenechea, and the general director of ACI-LAC, Rafael Echevarne, an executive meeting was held with the highest authorities and air transport representatives in the country to talk about the future of the sector.

The meeting was attended by: the Minister of Tourism Niels Olsen, the Minister of Foreign Trade, Production, Trade and Fisheries José Luis Prado; the minister of transport and works Marcelo Cabrera; Civil Aviation Director General William Birkett; Secretary Roberto Salas of the Technical Secretariat of Public-Private Associations and Delegated Management; the deputy minister of transport and works José Luis Aguilar; the director of investment and connectivity of the Ministry of Tourism Pablo Galindo; the President of ACI-LAC, Ezequiel Barrenechea, the general director of ACI-LAC Dr. Rafael Echevarne; the president and CEO of QUIPORT Ramón Miró; the general manager of TAGSA Ángel Córdova; and the general manager of ECOGAL Jorge Rosillo.
 
Despite the difficult situation that the sector has gone through during the pandemic period, the representatives of the country's 3 concessioned airports, TAGSA, ECOGAL and QUIPORT, highlighted the positive impacts that the development of the sector has had on the economy of the country, including:

more than 99% of sales remain within the domestic economy, 
21% of what is sold is paid to the treasury,
Creation of new jobs, 
Increase in tax collection and attraction of significant foreign investment to create and maintain the current infrastructures.

At the meeting, ideas and points of view were exchanged on the challenges and opportunities facing air transport in the country.

“We appreciate the participation of the Ecuadorian ministers and high authorities who accompanied us in this meeting. For ACI-LAC, it is essential to collaborate with the authorities to find solutions to the main challenges in the sector and to highlight the progress that ACI member airports in Ecuador have made in recent years, despite the impact of the pandemic”, highlighted Ezequiel Barrenechea, President of ACI-LAC.

The directors of the 3 most important airports in the country, informed the authorities of their achievements, having become a reference in the region for the recognition obtained. In terms of sustainability, the certification stands out: Airport Carbon Accreditation granted by ACI to the Guayaquil airport, at level 2 - reduction; and to the Quito and Galapagos airports, for having achieved neutrality, the latter two being the only airports in the region with this level of accreditation.

Likewise, the 3 concessioned airports are at the forefront in terms of passenger service, obtaining several awards granted by the ACI Airport ServiceQuality program: Best Airport in Latin America (Guayaquil since 2007, Galapagos 2019 and Quito 2020); the Voice of theCostumer Recognition in 2021 (Guayaquil, Galapagos and Quito); and the Customer Experience Accredited Airports awarded to the Quito airport.
