Chile seeks to reactivate tourism activity in a sustainable and inclusive manner
"Undersecretary Kunze pointed out: "As a government we want to listen to the tourism unions and associations, learn about their needs and address their problems together"
Starting a series of meetings that will take place throughout the country, the Undersecretary of Tourism, Verónica Kunze, traveled to the Valparaíso Region to hold a meeting with the unions and tourist groups in the area and listen to their concerns regarding of the necessary measures for the reactivation of tourism in the country.
Issues such as the state of the elevators in the city-port, the situation of tourist cruise calls, public safety in the different destinations and the evolution of the pandemic were raised with the new authority by the union leaders, who highlighted the need to improve coordination between the different actors in the region, increase public investment in the area and take advantage of the high level of association that exists between Valparaíso's tourism service providers.
In this regard, Undersecretary Kunze pointed out that “as a government we want to listen to the tourism unions and associations, learn about their needs and address their problems together. From the undersecretary's office, we committed ourselves to coordinating public institutions to contribute to the reactivation of the tourism sector, which has been strongly impacted by the pandemic. These actions are very necessary, since we still have about 150,000 jobs to recover to reach pre-pandemic levels in this sector, which provides job opportunities fundamentally for women and young people.”
Francisco Godoy, general manager of the Valparaíso Regional Tourism Corporation, described the meeting as "an excellent meeting, because the undersecretary listened to all the problems we have in the territory, the different unions were able to present all their concerns and, obviously, the Undersecretary gave us some answers and the commitment that joint work will be developed to continue advancing in all the gaps that exist in tourism in the region.
