Next year the most important event of Mexican tourism will be held in the capital of the country

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, and the Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, led the installation of the Organizing Committee of the 47th edition of the Tianguis Turístico México 2023, which will take place in the capital of the country.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) commented that in two months, at the close of the 46th edition of the Tianguis Turístico to be held in Acapulco, Mexico City will receive the courier of this event for the promotion and marketing of our destinations, as well as its attractions and tourist products.

After making a brief history of the Tianguis Turístico since its origin in 1975, Torruco Marqués highlighted the advantages offered by Mexico City, such as having the best air connectivity in the country, having three international airports that are part of the Metropolitan Airport System: the Mexico City International Airport, the “General Felipe Ángeles” International Airport and the Toluca International Airport.

He pointed out that Mexico City occupies the first position at the national level in receiving national tourists and tourists staying in hotels, and the second place, after Quintana Roo, in the arrival of international tourists.

He also indicated that the country's capital is known as the "City of Palaces" for its numerous buildings from the 16th to 19th centuries; It is the second city with the largest number of museums, after London, and is home to the Basilica of Guadalupe, the second most visited sanctuary in the world, after the Vatican.

The 47th edition of the Tianguis Turístico México 2023 is scheduled to take place in March, and an economic spill of 1,740 million pesos is estimated, which includes 40,000 room-nights for those attending the event.

"The Tourist Tianguis de México has returned with greater impetus, resuming a leading role in the recovery of our exciting tourist activity," declared Torruco Marqués.

He also specified that, according to the first reports received, the 46th edition of this great event, to be held in Acapulco, next May, will be a complete success.

He reiterated that in the last 45th edition, held in Mérida, Yucatán, four historical marks were surpassed: 3,492 exhibitors with delegates, 936 exhibiting companies, 1,017 purchasing companies and 57,287 business appointments.

“The formation of the Organizing Committee of the 47th edition of the Tianguis Turístico represents the return to the scheme that was done before the pandemic, in collaboration with the authorities of the host destinations; and thanks to which, in the short term, tourist activity will be at the levels of 2019”, assured the head of Sectur.

For her part, the head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, stressed that after the pandemic, tourism in the capital is resurging thanks to two attributes: not having closed and being one of the cities with the highest level of vaccination in the world.

When thanking the support of Sectur for the realization of the Tianguis Turístico in 2023, he announced some events that will take place as part of the cultural agenda, among which it stands out that on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Cervantino International Festival, Mexico City for the first time it will be the invited entity, and for which there will be a series of activities in the capital.

In the installation of the Organizing Committee of the 47th edition of the Tianguis Turístico 2023 were present, among others, Humberto Hernández-Haddad, Undersecretary of Tourism; Emmanuel Rey, General Director of Promotion and International Affairs of Sectur; Eduardo Martínez Garza, General Director of CIE Comercial; Rebeca Olivia Sánchez Sandin, Secretary of Tourism of Mexico City; and Gabriela Cámara Bargellini, honorary president of the Mixed Fund for Tourism Promotion of Mexico City.
