During January and February 2022, 7 million 364 thousand passengers transported on domestic routes were registered


The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that between January and February 2022 there were 7 million 364 thousand passengers transported on domestic flights, a figure 49.5 percent higher than 2021; being only 3.1 percent away from reaching the passengers transported in 2019, which was 7 million 597 thousand passengers.

The head of the Secretary of Tourism (Sectur) reported that the Mexican airlines that presented the greatest activity during January and February 2022 in domestic flights were Volaris and Viva Aerobus, transporting 5 million 519 thousand passengers, with which they exceed arrivals by 70.9%. of 2021 and 46.8% of what was captured in 2019.

According to the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) and the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), Volaris, Viva Aerobus, Aeroméxico and Aeromar were the main airlines with the highest number of passengers on domestic flights during January and February, since they added a market share of 98.6%.

He indicated that during the first two months of 2022, 7 million 276 thousand passengers were transported on international flights, which represents 125.6% higher than 2021; lacking 13.2% to reach the passengers transported in 2019, which was 8 million 387 thousand passengers.

Torruco Marqués highlighted that the main Mexican airlines that transported passengers on international flights during January and February 2022 were Aeroméxico and Volaris with 1 million 382 thousand passengers. This figure is 10.2% higher than 2021 and would be 11.6% away from reaching the number of passengers in 2019, which was 1 million 564 thousand.

Meanwhile, American Airlines and United Airlines were the US airlines that in the first two months of 2022 had the highest passenger flow with 1 million 746 thousand passengers, which means 95.5% more compared to 2021; being 15.1% away from reaching the 2019 amount of 1 million 517 thousand passengers transported.

The Secretary of Tourism commented that the North American market concentrates 83.8% of the share of international passengers transported.

He added that the European market had a share of 8.5% of the total with 616 thousand 379 passengers transported, which means an increase of 362.9%. While 580 thousand 946 passengers were transported from Central and South America, with a growth of 176.6%.

Finally, Torruco Marqués said that the Asian market had an increase of 592.7% by transporting 25 thousand 12 passengers and with a market share of 0.3%.
