Mexico has received 3 million international tourists by air between January and February
The Secretary of Tourism pointed out that the figure represents an increase of 152.3% compared to the same period in 2021
Based on information from the Migration Policy Unit of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that between January and February 2022, the arrival of 3 million 33 thousand international tourists by air to Mexico according to their nationality.
The head of the Tourism Secretariat (Sectur) pointed out that this represents an increase of 152.3% compared to the same period in 2021; missing 11.1% to reach the arrivals of 2019, when 3 million 410 thousand tourists arrived.
He highlighted that the main countries in international tourist arrivals by air to Mexico during January and February 2022 were: the United States, Canada and Colombia, with 2 million 282 thousand tourists; which means 145.6% more compared to 2021, being 7.4% to reach 2 million 463 thousand tourists captured in 2019.
Torruco Marqués indicated that in the first two months of 2022, the airports of Cancun, Mexico City and Los Cabos were the ones that received the largest number of international tourists, adding 2 million 304 thousand tourists, this is 147.2% more than 2021 , and only 8.9% to reach what was observed in 2019.
He commented that in the first two months of the year, the arrival of Americans by air, the main issuing market to Mexico, reached one million 870 thousand tourists, this is 116.1% more than in 2021, and also exceeding the arrivals of 2019 by 11.4%, when one million 679 thousand tourists were registered.
Meanwhile, the arrival of Canadian tourists between January and February 2022 was 296 thousand 275 tourists, which represented an increase of 971.3% compared to 2021; and being 57.8% away from reaching 701,292 tourists of that nationality captured in 2019, said the Secretary of Tourism.
He pointed out that during this period, the arrival of Colombians by air was 115,275, this is 218.8% more than in 2021, also exceeding, with 39.6%, the 82,549 Colombian tourists registered in 2019.
