The Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués highlighted the importance of promoting the promotion to other parts of the world

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, and the Ambassador of Mexico in Spain, Hon. Quirino Ordaz Coppel, participated in the opening dinner prior to the First International Tianguis de Pueblos Mágicos, organized by the Government of the State of Hidalgo, headed by Omar Fayad Meneses.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) pointed out the importance of holding the event in this city where the traditional and the modern come together; with a great past, but always looking forward.

He stressed that few nations have a bond as close as the one between Spain and Mexico. “In this spirit, we have come to present a program in which our tourism sector has a special interest and wants to broaden its horizons, the Pueblos Mágicos program,” he said.

Torruco Marqués explained that Pueblos Mágicos is the name for the program that seeks to make visible the natural, historical, cultural, architectural and gastronomic wonders that small towns in Mexico have.

He added that it promotes tourism towards alternative places other than the large tourist centers, thus diversifying the destinations of the national market, since since its creation in 2001 to date, 132 localities have received this appointment.

The Secretary of Tourism stressed that it was unfair that the promotion of the Magical Towns was directed only to the national market, so now it is a priority to promote it in other latitudes of the world.

“We want to share with all of you these peculiar sites, whose gross tourism census added value presented an average annual growth rate of 12%, from 2003 to 2018. In addition, they provide work for 236,000 people, in 62,000 economic units, with an income annual average for workers of 156 thousand pesos, and 2 million 566 thousand pesos for each of the economic units”, declared Torruco Marqués.

He indicated that internationalizing our Magical Towns is sharing our beauties. “Our confidence in these destinations is so great that for this reason we are here today, on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, to invite you to discover new destinations and try the great variety of its cuisine, to walk its streets, parks and rivers, and enjoy its architecture, traditions, folklore and nature, as well as the warm hospitality of its inhabitants”.

The First International Tianguis de Pueblos Mágicos will be held from April 22 to 24 in Barcelona, Spain, due to the fraternal relationship with Mexico, and for which it has the support of the Emirates airline, which this year has 348 flights scheduled in the Dubai-Barcelona-Mexico route, with an offer of 98 thousand 184 seats, pointed out the Secretary of Tourism.

For his part, the Mexican ambassador to Spain, Hon. Quirino Ordaz Coppel, recognized the trajectory of Miguel Torruco Marqués as a great promoter of tourism. "Bringing this event that did not exist, bringing together the beauties of the 132 Magical Towns and internationalizing it is for the vision of the Secretary of Tourism."

He highlighted the importance of this First International Tianguis de Pueblos Mágicos being in Spain, a country that is connected to Mexico with almost 40 weekly frequencies, and invited exhibitors to promote and sell a lot to the Spanish and world markets.
