Chile participates in Seatrade Cruise Global
With an important delegation present headed by Undersecretary Verónica Kunze, the country participates in the event being held in Miami, FL
After two years of interruption due to the pandemic, the cruise industry comes together again in a new version of Seatrade Cruise Global. The most important international fair in the sector, which this year is held in Miami, United States, seeks to strengthen networks, business and promotion in order to recover tourism worldwide.
That is why the highest tourism authority of the Government of Chile, Undersecretary Verónica Kunze, traveled to Miami to represent our country before the industry and hold various bilateral meetings with Argentina, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Uruguay, in addition to meeting with the Southern Cone Ports Corporation and with executives from the Norwegian Cruise Line to identify opportunities and evaluate new routes in national territory.
Undersecretary Kunze commented that the cruise industry is “very important for the development and reactivation of tourism, since, through them, local economies benefit. According to our statistics, the total average expenditure of each cruise passenger is 68 dollars, just over 57 thousand pesos, which is why the promotional work carried out today by our country, the municipalities and the private sector are key to attracting more cruise calls to the territory. ”.
The authority added that “participating in an event like this allows us to work together with neighboring countries and also know what the latest trends are, because tourism, in this area, we must reactivate with a global perspective and reposition Chile as a good destination. , considering that, for example, 35.7% of cruise passengers arriving in our country are from the United States”
For his part, the general manager of the Portuaria Austral company, Rodrigo Pommiez, expressed his satisfaction at "resuming face-to-face contact with representatives of the cruise industry to enhance their calls at the terminals of the Magallanes Region and Chilean Antarctica." . He added that “we are very happy because as a team we have successfully tackled the challenge of resuming passenger traffic in our facilities, with carefully scheduled operations to guarantee the health safety of all those involved. To do this, in addition to installing equipment, preparing protocols and other measures, we promote coordination meetings with representatives of our workers and operations teams, as well as with the different actors involved in this activity.”
Seatrade Cruise Global has more than 500 exhibitors and visitors from more than 100 countries, who will participate in networking and thematic seminars related to education, health, safety, entertainment, design, equipment and naval construction, ports and destinations, in addition to the latest trends. of the industry
The main motto of this 2022 version is resilience, which is intended to stand out in all those who are part of tourism and work, with them, in pursuit of a safe and innovative cruise experience to reactivate the industry, which also contributes to other sectors of the global economy.
In Chile, historically, 229 landfalls, 236,901 cruise passengers and 105,148 international cruise crew members have been received per season, which was affected by the pandemic during 2020 and 2021, resuming at the end of last year with the reopening of borders and the protocol presented by the Undersecretary of Tourism and the National Tourism Service (Sernatur).
