TAG Airlines begins operations of the Mérida-Guatemala route
The Guatemalan airline will have a frequency of 4 flights a week with competitive rates
As part of the actions for the development and growth of tourism in the entity, last March the start of operations of the new Mérida-Guatemala air route was confirmed, which began operations this Friday, April 29, endorsing the commitment of the State for increasing its air connection and keeping its doors open to the world, in order to attract more tourism, increase economic development and generate new jobs as a result of a strong initiative to promote the state as a great destination.
As part of the activities for the inaugural flight of this new route, the officials who head the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (Inguat), Anayansy Carolina Rodríguez Castillo, and the local Secretary of Tourism Development (Sefotur), Michelle Fridman Hirsch, met to exchange comments regarding both destinations.
Highlighting the positive indicators of the state of Yucatan that reflect a recovery of 91.6% of the seats that had been lost, as well as the increase in international flights, surpassing those that existed prior to the pandemic.
Likewise, Fridman Hirsch shared with his counterpart the positive results of the first quarter of the year as well as the recent Easter holidays for the entity.
“We exceeded 70% of hotel occupancy and January of this year was the best of all the months of January, in the history of the state, in terms of the reception of domestic tourism, with which we continue forward, we are recovering and we are doing things are going well, being an example of how to safely reactivate tourism according to global trends, after the pandemic, ”said the official.
It should be noted that March 2022 has been the best year for the Mérida airport, since it has registered a historical record of 233,504 passengers, who have benefited from the efforts to increase connectivity with the main airports in the country.
The governor of the state of Yucatan Mauricio Vila Dosal, the head of the Sefotur Michelle Fridman together with the general director and the president of TAG Airlines, Julio Gamero and Marcela Toriello, cut the bar for the start of operations receiving the 50 passengers of this flight from Guatemala, which will have a frequency of 4 flights a week, with competitive rates.
Taking the floor, the CEO of TAG Airlines, Julio Gamero, thanked the Governor who received and supported him from the beginning, efforts that made it possible for this project to be extremely successful, for the development of tourist and commercial activity in both nations; Likewise, he highlighted the benefits that Yucatan offers, since "it has become a benchmark in international travel and tourism at a global level, and we are surprised by the industrial development that we are seeing and the security that the state has, which is a source of pride for everyone we visit."
For his part, Vidal Dosal recognized the work done by Sefotur in promoting the state.
“We must continue promoting our state, as we have done, for example, in Guadalajara, promoting the Year of Yucatecan Gastronomy; we were the guest state at the San Marcos Fair in Aguascalientes, the most important fair in the entire country; Yesterday, we started the Yucatán Expone program, in the Coyoacán delegation in Mexico City, where we took small Yucatecan businessmen, artisans and entrepreneurs to exhibit their products, and we are going to continue promoting Yucatán, throughout Mexico, throughout North America, in Europe, in Asia and, also, in South America”, affirmed the Governor.
All this, in order to bring in more investment, generate better paid jobs and attract more tourists, which generate the economic income that we need in the state, for the benefit of all families. "We are convinced of the formula we have in Yucatan: continue promoting good things, work on what needs to be improved, but, above all, continue working in a coordinated manner, the 3 levels of government, with private initiative," Vila said. "This flight, which connects Mérida with Guatemala, falls within this framework of collaboration between the State Government and the Mérida City Council, to which we are all called to join, to continue moving towards a better future," she said.
