Reactivation in the arrival of foreigners during the first quarter of 2022 reaches 72% of the figure reached in 2019

In the first quarter of 2022, Colombia received a total of 717,942 foreign visitors, which corresponds to a reactivation of 72%, compared to 997,340 in the same period of 2019, according to ANATO, based on figures from Migración Colombia.

Despite this not being a complete recovery compared to pre-pandemic data, there has been a gradual increase, the above, driven by the return of traveler confidence with the strength of promotional campaigns, the reactivation of air connectivity international, the reopening of destinations and the inclusion of new tourist attractions within the offer of receptive Travel Agencies.

This continuous growth in the reactivation has been presented during the three months. In January it reached 67%; February, 70%; and March, 79%, when compared to the months of 2019.

“These figures fill us with optimism, but also with interest in rethinking how to face new challenges in the face of the competitiveness of the industry in the sector in our country to attract more travelers and we position ourselves as a destination of international stature”, explained Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO.

The foregoing, taking into account that the main countries of nationality of foreign visitors are the United States, Peru, Mexico, Ecuador and Chile, which have reported a reactivation of 106%, 89%, 92%, 100% and 81% respectively , during the first quarter of 2022, compared to the same months of 2019. Regarding
the destination departments that have shown growth in the arrival of travelers from abroad, the list is led by Cundinamarca, with 41%; Tolima, 33%; Antioch, 17%; Risaralda, with 16%; Quindío with 15%; and Meta, 5%.

"We hope that, being close to the beginning of the holiday season at the end of the year, this positive trend will continue, since we already see that, in the first quarter of 2022, half of the foreigners who arrived in the same months of 2021 have already arrived" concluded the union leader.
