The Ministry of Tourism will award in the Tiaguis Turístico the categories of cultural and sports tourism ventures

The Federal Tourism Secretariat announced the list of winners of the Innovation Recognition of the Mexican Tourism Product 2022, an initiative that seeks to disseminate and award a distinction to the most innovative national tourism products, which have contributed to developing the country's tourist destinations, among which they announced as winners the Chinesca in Mexicali and the Baja Coast to Coast Crossing, two emblematic projects of the state of Baja California.

This recognition also seeks to honor the providers of tourist services, as well as the small and medium-sized tourism companies that developed the most authentic projects in Mexico and that make each state a site of interest for national and international visitors, generators of sources of employment. .

In this way, the category of Cultural Tourism was awarded to Origins and Secrets of Chinesca, popularly known as Chinatown of Mexicali, one of the most iconic historical points of the region with origins since the 19th century. China was experiencing socioeconomic changes that caused the migration of many of its inhabitants, in search of job opportunities and due to its proximity to the United States, families settled in the capital of Baja California.

This site is a unique space since it has typical architecture of ancient Asia in red and gold colors, beautiful murals of paintings and oriental deities and details that decorate restaurants, cafes, bars, clothing and accessories stores, in addition to having cultural tours to descend to its basements or tunnels that were built to withstand the high temperatures of this area of ​​Mexico, and that were used as temples, casinos, schools, hospitals and shelters for their community, which today are a museum to learn about the customs of this culture .

Regarding the Sports Tourism branch, Travesía Baja Coast to Coast was awarded, a life experience, a tourist route concept of "Adixion Tour", one of the most iconic hiking events, since during a five-day trip a unique sports and ecotourism experience in which the state will be crossed from end to end from Altamira Beach on the Pacific coast to the Sea of ​​Cortez; in which there is hiking, camping and observation of the most incredible passages in the region, suitable for beginners and adventurers.

In this sense, the Governor of the State of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda, pointed out “Our Chinesca received the Innovation Award for the best Cultural Tourism product in the country in 2022. Congratulations to Rubén Chen and all his team and their work to regenerate the Historic Center of Mexicali, the cachanillas are already enjoying it and we are very happy that it is being recognized nationally.”

While the Secretary of Tourism of Baja California, Miguel Aguiñiga Rodríguez indicated "The tourist offer of Baja California is very vast, and we are very proud that they recognize two projects that we consider to be pioneers in creativity and show part of the cultural heritage of our region" .

"Congratulations to the tourist servers that make possible the development of the Chinesca and the Baja Coast to Coast Crossing, they are two experiences that must be lived at least once in a lifetime to get to know the state" he explained.

It should be noted that this recognition is given to the categories of Cultural Tourism, Nature, Meetings, Health, Romance, Social and Sports; that as an imperative character it must be a tourist product or activity that has been commercialized in the market for at least three consecutive years prior to the COVID 19 pandemic, in addition to being currently active.

The official award ceremony will take place on May 25 within the framework of the Tianguis Turístico México 2022, which will be held in Acapulco, Guerrero, from May 23 to 25, 2022.
