14.9 million international visitors enter Mexico between January and March
The Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, reported that 30.9% more visitors arrived in the first quarter of 2022 than in the same period of 2021
Based on the results of the International Travelers Survey published by INEGI, the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that between January and March 2022, 14 million 937 thousand international visitors entered the country, registering a growth of 30.9% compared to 2021; being 39.3% away from reaching the arrival of visitors in the same period of 2019, which was 24.6 million international visitors.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) pointed out that the foreign exchange income from international visitors in the first quarter of 2022 was 6 thousand 771.9 million dollars, this is 128.2% more, compared to 2021; missing 3.9% to reach the amount of 7 thousand 44.7 million dollars raised between January and March 2019.
He indicated that between January and March 2022, 8 million 576 thousand international tourists entered the country, which represents 48% more, compared to what was captured in 2021; being 22.6% away from reaching the tourists who arrived in the same period of 2019, which were 11 million 75 thousand international tourists.
Torruco Marqués reported that foreign exchange income from international tourists in the first quarter of 2022 was 6 thousand 398.9 million dollars, 137.7% more, compared to the same period in 2021; while, to reach the currencies from January to March 2019, 6 thousand 470.9 million dollars, only 1.1% is missing.
He pointed out that during the first quarter of 2022, 5 million 102 thousand tourists arrived by air, this is 135.2% more compared to 2021, lacking 7.7% to reach the tourists of admission by air captured in the same period of 2019, when 5.5 million tourists entered.
The average expenditure of tourists for admission by air during January-March 2022, showed a growth of 9.8% compared to 2021, registering one thousand 157.6 dollars; also surpassing with 9.6% the average expense registered between January-March 2019, which was one thousand 56.2 dollars.
The Secretary of Tourism stressed that during the first quarter of 2022, the balance of the balance for international visitors was 5 thousand 495.1 million dollars, this is 153.8% more than what was registered in 2021; also surpassing with 16.5%, the balance captured in the same period of 2019, which was 4 thousand 717.8 million dollars.
