Between January and April, Mexico received more than US$8.6 billion from international tourism
Tourism Secretary Miguel Torruco Marqués reported that the figure represents an increase of 123.8% compared to the same period in 2021 and 3.7% compared to the same period in 2019
The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that from January to April 2022, foreign exchange income from international tourists from January to April 2022 was 8 thousand 673.1 million dollars, this it is 123.8% more compared to the first quarter of 2021; also surpassing with 3.7% the currencies of the same period 2019.
The head of the Tourism Secretariat (Sectur) highlighted that, based on the results of the International Travelers Survey published by INEGI, between January and April 2022, 11 million 644 thousand international tourists entered the country, which represents 43.4 % more compared to what was collected in the same period of 2021; being 20.8% away from reaching 14.7 million international tourists in the same period of 2019.
He pointed out that the average expenditure of international tourists in the January-April 2022 period was 744.9 dollars, which means 56.1% more compared to 2021, and also exceeding by 30.8% the 569.3 dollars registered in the same period of 2019.
Torruco Marqués highlighted that during the first four months of 2022, 6 million 911 thousand internment tourists arrived in Mexico by air, this is 121.7% more compared to 2021, lacking 3.4% to reach the internment tourists captured in the same period of 2019 .
He commented that the income of foreign currency by airborne tourists from January to April 2022 had an increase of 141.2% compared to 2021, registering 7 thousand 971 million dollars, and an increase of 6.1% compared to 7 thousand 514 million dollars. dollars raised in the same period of 2019.
He indicated that the average expenditure of tourists for admission by air during January-April 2022, showed a growth of 8.8% compared to 2021, registering one thousand 153.4 dollars; also surpassing with 9.8% the average expense registered between January-April 2019, which was one thousand 50.1 dollars.
The head of Sectur pointed out that between January-April 2022, 20 million 256 thousand international visitors entered the country, registering an increase of 29.9% compared to 2021; being 38.1% away from reaching the arrival of visitors in the same period of 2019.
He underlined that foreign exchange income from international visitors in the first quarter of 2022 was 9 thousand 182.9 million dollars, which represents an increase of 116.3% compared to 2021; also exceeding the 9 thousand 142.9 million dollars in foreign currency per visitor registered between January-April 2019, with 0.4%.
The Secretary of Tourism reported that from January to April 2022, the balance of the balance for international visitors was 7 thousand 338.3 million dollars, this is 137% more than what was registered in 2021; also exceeding with 22.2% the balance captured in the same period of 2019, which was 6 thousand 3.8 million dollars.
