Costa Rica concludes outstanding participation in FIEXPO, Latin America
The Central American country seeks to consolidate the recovery of the meeting, incentive, congress and event tourism segment
The ICT participated this week in the FIEXPO Latin America Panama 2022, one of the most important business and networking rounds of the MICE industry in Latin America, held from June 13 to 16.
According to data from the organizers, a total of 820 specialized suppliers from 17 countries participated in this edition, related to the organization of meetings, events, congresses and incentives, whose purpose was to connect with the most prominent buyers both in Latin America and globally.
Among all the participants, more than 8,700 business meetings were held, in addition, the presence of 1,957 visitors and 253 Hosted Buyers was recorded. (international buyers). Likewise, world experts with extensive international experience in the meeting and congress industry participated, who provided important training and workshops to those present.

¿Cuáles han sido los objetivos de participar en FIEXPO?
La idea ha sido lograr concretar algunos contactos, también llegar y completar algunos negocios, pero también facilitar a proveedores del segmento MICE un espacio para que tengan ese acercamiento con empresarios que estén interesados en hacer sus eventos en nuestro país y estamos notando muy buenos resultados.
What was the turnover of the MICE segment in Costa Rica before the pandemic and how is it now?
"It was in clear growth before the health crisis, thank God we are already recovering the levels again quite interesting and the objective of our current tourism minister is to reach the numbers we had in 2019 again for next year."
What learning did the health crisis leave you?
"We learned to be more resilient, to know how to face extreme situations, despite the fact that several companies did not manage to survive, there are many others that did, and the truth is that we are all recovering very well."
Who returns to Costa Rica to hold an event after so long, what news will they find?
"At the infrastructure level, airports have been expanded, roads were built, many highways are being built and a fairly strong investment has been made by the government. Some new hotels have also been entering. At the level of connectivity, we already have all the routes that were operated in 2019".
Within the framework of this event, the Minister of Tourism, William Rodríguez. participated in the 9th Political Forum of Latin America on Meeting Tourism, in which he delved into issues related to development and training in Latin America.
The strengthening of the MICE strategy continues
For the ICT Marketing area, participation in FIEXPO Latin America Panama 2022 is part of the strategic actions to show Costa Rica as an excellent alternative for the organization of meetings, events, congresses and incentives in within the framework of this new normality and in the context of the gradual recovery of all segments of the tourism industry.
Joining the above is the participation in specialized events of worldwide recognition, among which the recent presence at IMEX Frankfurt (Germany), as well as IMEX America (Las Vegas), among others, stands out.
As part of the efforts of the meeting tourism strategy, an annual action plan is carried out, which includes: an advertising plan in the main specialized media of the meeting tourism industry, specifically in the markets of the United States, Canada, Latin America and the United Kingdom.
The strategy of promotion and complementary actions for the development of meeting tourism remains in force. Our country stands out in this segment due to air connections, a strategic location, unforgettable experiences, quality of service, an excellent tourist platform, the infrastructure for holding events, as well as a high level of education, the diversity of activities that can be carried out in the destination and sustainability, as a transversal axis of the tourism development model.
According to data collected by the ICT, the meeting industry represents 22% of tourism worldwide and the participant has high purchasing power, spending 3 to 4 times more than a traditional tourist.
This event was held at the Panama Convention Center and the following Costa Rican tourism companies participated: Costa Rican Tourism Institute, Wyndham Garden San José Escazú, Costa Rica Convention Center, Costa Rica Top Tours, Hotel Radisson San José, Costa Rica, Costa Rica DMC, Costa Rica Convention Bureau and Croc's Casino Resort.
