Copa Airlines announces new flights to Brazil during FIEXPO
The Panamanian company announced new routes that will connect the Tocumen International Airport with Porto Alegre, Manaus, Belo Horizonte and Brasilia
Air connectivity between Brazil and Panama will have an increase in daily and weekly flights in 2022. The announcement was made at a meeting between Embratur and Copa Airlines, held within the framework of one of the most important industry fairs in the region, which brought together in Panama more than 600 tourism professionals, meeting organizers and corporate events from the United States, Canada, Europe and Latin America.
The meeting between the president of the Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion, Silvio Nascimento, and the vice president of sales for Copa Airlines, Christophe Didier, took place during the activities of Fiexpo Latin America, an event related to the business, events and incentives segment in the Americas. of South and Central America.
The new weekly flights scheduled until December of this year are: three to Porto Alegre (will go from 4 to 7), one to Manaus (increases from 4 to 5), two to Belo Horizonte (5 to 7) and one in Brasilia.
In addition, two new daily flights will be offered to Rio de Janeiro and one to Guarulhos. Copa Airlines also intends to expand connectivity with Brazil in 2023, with routes to Recife and Salvador. Starting in 2024, Curitiba, Florianópolis, Belém and Foz do Iguaçu should also receive new flights.
The president of Embratur, Silvio Nascimento, described the meeting as very productive. "The meeting with Copa had an important result: we reached the goal of increasing the flow of tourists between both countries," said Nascimento. "We took the opportunity to discuss association actions to promote Brazilian destinations in Panama and in the destinations served by Copa, especially the United States, a market for which we are carrying out several actions," he added.
Christophe Didier affirmed that the objective of the Panamanian market is to become the most competitive hub in Latin America, and that he sees Brazil as a strategic ally for this objective. “Brazil is one of the main markets for Copa Airlines. We are very interested in establishing alliances with Embratur”, said the vice president of sales for Copa Airlines.
Also participating in the meeting, for Copa Airlines, were the General Manager, Pedro Heilbron, and the Commercial and Planning Vice President, Dennis Cary. On behalf of the Embassy of Brazil in Panama, the Minister Counselor, María Dolores Penna, participated.
More than 300 supplier registrations were made at the fair, with an expected participation of around 860 international buyers and an impact of US$ 7 million. The organization estimates that approximately 1,200 business meetings will be held and $320 million in business will be generated among the 20 participating countries.
Together with Embratur, representatives of 15 co-exhibitors participated in Fiexpo Latin America, which ended on Thursday, June 17: from the Iguazú Falls, São Sebastião (SP), Pernambuco and Socorro (SP) destinations; tour operators Amazon Lord, DIO Viagens, AS Brasil, One Event and GM Group; the entities São Paulo Convention & Visitor Bureau and Rio CVB; the hotel chains Sheraton São Paulo WTC Hotel and Rede Accor RJ; and Destino Costa do Sol and Expo Center Norte.
