Ushuaia received the first big snowfall of 2022
The southernmost city in the world is preparing to welcome tourists with endless activities to fully enjoy the winter season
This year, the natural force of the snow arrived with all its power in the city of Ushuaia. This Friday, June 17, a snowfall began to occur with variable intensity and it is estimated that it will last throughout the following days.
According to local meteorological sources, "an entry of cold polar air over the city since last Thursday produced a drop in temperature and snowfall of varying intensity over Ushuaia that will continue throughout the week and that allowed the first great snowfall of the season, the city with its characteristic white of the winter season”.
Thus, with the record of the first great snowfall, the city at the end of the world, which has the best quality of snow in the country, is preparing to receive tourists with endless activities to fully enjoy the snow season that is coming: winter sports, sledding, snowshoeing, its immense snowy landscapes, the magic hour of sunset and the longest nights with the best gastronomic experiences in the region.
The ski season, marked by the opening of Cerro Castor -which is scheduled for next June 24- will last until the first days of October. Due to the latitude in which the city is located, the snow in Ushuaia is recognized worldwide as the best in Argentina.
Ushuaia is the capital of the Province of Tierra del Fuego and one of the must-see destinations in the country. It is popularly known as the southernmost city in the world or "end of the world".
It owes its name to its emblematic Ushuaia Bay, which the Yámanas called: ush ('at the bottom') and waia ('bay' or 'cove') which means 'deep bay or bay at the bottom'.
It is located in a valley surrounded by the Andes mountain range and to the south by the Bay of Ushuaia and the shores of the Beagle Channel – an interoceanic passage that makes its port one of the most visited on the continent.
It is also known for being the most active gateway to national and international tourism seeking to venture to the Antarctic continent.
