Uruguay managed to attract events at FIEXPO for the next two years
At the end of the two days of the fair, the Uruguayan delegation recorded more than 300 meetings with interested parties from Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Mexico, among others
FIEXPO Latin America was born in Uruguay, where it was held in Montevideo and Punta del Este, then in Lima, Santiago, Cartagena de Indias and now in Panama City.
Uruguay has always been present, and in this edition, it was headed by the Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera, the person in charge of the Territorial Management Division, Mónica Lozano, the Director of Tourism of Montevideo, Fernando Amado, representatives of the Municipality of Maldonado, Montevideo Bureau, Elis Group, Congresses and Meetings, Punta del Este Convention Center, Solanas Group, Raddison Victoria Plaza Hotel and Enjoy Punta del Este.
The activities preceding the Expo included talks and training given by international industry leaders, where experiences of new business models after the pandemic, successful destinations, and exchanges on business and work models were presented to promote the growth of companies in the sector -emphasis was placed on the need to have trained personnel for the different areas involved in the organization of congresses and meetings-.
Closing this first stage, the 9th Latin American Political Forum on Meetings Tourism was held with the participation of authorities from 13 countries present at FIEXPO 2022, among which Minister Viera stands out with his presentation in which he presented the benefits and the guarantees offered by Uruguay for holding events in this country.
As the first piece of news, the Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera, reported that after meeting with the CEO of Copa Airlines, Pedro Heilbron, the Panamanian airline that currently operates 18 weekly frequencies to Carrasco, as soon as they receive 15 new aircraft that are waiting, they will add three flights weekly, then taking the operation to three daily.
Heibron also promised to study the possibility of including a direct flight from Panama to Punta del Este for next summer on an experimental basis.
For his part, Viera informed that it is already a decision of the Uruguayan government to invest to provide the Carrasco Airport with the necessary equipment (ILS) to bring the terminal to category 3, which will allow it to function with normally adverse weather conditions in winter (fog). .

To give some examples:
-Latin American Union of Psychology will hold its International Congress from March 10 to 13, 2023.
-International Federation of Airline Pilots, approached with the interest of holding its annual Congress.
-ALAPCCO Latin American Federation of Cognitive and Behavioral Psychotherapies, adjusted details to hold its annual Congress in March 2023.
-ATA Martial Arts Uruguay, wants to hold the Taekwondo World Cup for the second time in Uruguay in 2025, this time at the Antel Arena.
-Latin American Association of Palliative Care interested in holding its annual Congress in the country.
-Association of Liquefied Gas and Petroleum, the annual worldwide meeting in March 2024 in Montevideo.
-Association of Free Zones of the Americas, which carries out several activities a year and had never been to Uruguay, so they showed great interest in approaching Montevideo.
- Finally, it should be noted that budget requests were received for a medical conference, a science conference and two incentive trips from one of the hotel chains present at the stand, as well as from insurance companies whose events are held several times a year in the East of our country.
According to the data obtained from FIEXPO, a total of 8,700 business meetings, 1,957 visitors, 253 hosted buyers and some 820 exhibitors have been generated for the two days of the fair.
