This year, Sectur estimates the arrival of 42 million tourists

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that in 2022 Mexico will have a historic economic spill of 25 thousand 370 million dollars, which will represent 28.2% more than in 2021 and will exceed by 3.2% what was achieved in 2019.

When participating in the National Convention of the Chamber of the Radio and Television Industry, in Cancun, Quintana Roo, the head of the Tourism Secretariat (Sectur) pointed out that in the current administration, headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, they have focused their efforts on the practice of tourism with a more human and social dimension, where the benefits of this activity permeate the local population; and he emphasized that his policies implemented as a result of the pandemic were correct, by not allowing such a sharp drop in tourism.

In the company of the governor of the state of Quintana Roo, Carlos Joaquín González, Torruco Marqués stressed that the philosophy and principles of tourism are: to make this activity a tool for social reconciliation; integrate and diversify a tourism product that responds to consumer tastes and expectations, generating jobs, foreign exchange, average spending and private investment

He stressed that, with this purpose, Sectur works to eradicate the concentration of tourism in only six tourist places, destinations to which 92.5% of international tourists arrive, therefore, efforts are being directed towards the diversification of new markets and thus , avoid the economic imbalance between the regions of the country.

He indicated that work is being done on the development of new products, working hand in hand with state and municipal authorities and the private sector. “To date we have the Mexican Hotel Museum in Orizaba; the Armando Manzanero Museum in Mérida; the GNP Seguros Arena, scene of the Mexican Tennis Open in Acapulco; and very soon the largest aquarium in Latin America in Mazatlan,” he commented.

The head of Sectur highlighted that, at the end of 2020, Mexico began with the process of economic recovery, temporarily ascending to the third position in receiving tourists, with 24 million 300 thousand travelers, only below France and Italy, and number 14 for foreign exchange, with 11 billion dollars.

He added that, in the current year, the arrival in Mexico of 42 million tourists is estimated, only 6.4% below 2019, while Foreign Direct Tourism Investment, generated in the first quarter of this year, amounted to 2 thousand 422 million dollars, thus exceeding what was raised in the same period of 2019, which was one thousand 295 million dollars.

Before the representatives of the CIRT, Torruco Marqués recognized the importance of the work of the business sector, such as this prestigious Chamber, chaired by José Antonio García Herrera, which includes leaders of the media who contribute to the dissemination and promotion of tourism in the attractions of our country.

“It is clear that businessmen continue to place their trust in Mexico and in the Government of the Republic. My thanks to all of you, distinguished friends of the CIRT, whom we consider in the Ministry of Tourism, our great allies for the promotion of our destinations”, concluded Torruco Marqués.

For his part, the Governor of Quintana Roo, Carlos Joaquín González, welcomed the head of Sectur, as it is a leading entity in international tourism that houses the history and traditions of ancient cultures. He highlighted the growth that Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum have had, which forces the authorities to be better and better. He invited those attending the CIRT National Convention to enjoy the tourist destinations of Quintana Roo.

On his occasion, the president of the CIRT, José Antonio García Herrera, thanked the Secretary of Tourism for his presence at this important event, with which they celebrate 100 years of radio in Mexico, and reiterated the commitment of the Chamber to join forces that contribute in the promotion and development of the tourist activity, in the different destinations of the country.
