In the first quarter, USD 1,457 million dollars entered with a reactivation of 83% compared to the same period of 2019

The arrival of international tourists to Colombia had been reporting significant growth, but it was after the pandemic that the indices began to reflect a contraction. However, after the reopening of the countries, the sector showed its resistance and began its recovery.

“Colombia has great potential in receptive tourism. And it has been this public-private effort, the entry into operation of total international connectivity and the adaptation of destinations to the new demands of travelers, which has made Colombia increasingly attractive” Paula Cortés Calle, Executive President of ANATO.

According to the Banco de República, during 2021 a total of $3,054 million dollars entered Colombia for exports in travel and passenger air transport accounts, which corresponded to a reactivation of 45%, when compared to 2019.

However, 2022 began more positively, since the revitalization of tourism has achieved that, in the first quarter, an income of USD 1,457 million was reached, with a reactivation of 83%, compared to the same period of 2019

. Likewise, during this period, 914,882 non-resident visitors entered, with which an average expenditure of USD$1,592 is estimated. The above is since it is 8% higher than the USD$1,474 of 2019.

The union leader also explained that: “the tourism sector is experiencing a stage of recovery, but also remarkable development and growth. Therefore, it is essential to continue working to promote strategies aimed at its promotion, to encourage the arrival of more foreign travelers and to extend their stay in our territory”.
