Mexican authorities establish mechanisms to boost tourism

The Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, led the 1st. Ordinary Session 2022 of the National Conference of Secretaries of Tourism and Tourism Officials

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, led the First Ordinary Session 2022 of the National Conference of Secretaries of Tourism and Tourism Officials, a coordination mechanism through which the three orders of government establish the bases for the policy, planning, programming and development of tourist activity in Mexico.

With the participation of the secretaries and representatives of the Tourism Secretariats of the 32 entities of the country, in virtual format, the head of the Tourism Secretariat (Sectur) highlighted the importance of joint work to promote the diversification of tourism activity so that its benefits reach more communities in the country, and make tourism a tool for social reconciliation.

"We met to present new issues that we consider to be of great relevance for the strengthening of tourism activity, in which we require your important contribution," said Torruco Marqués.

During the National Tourism Conference, the Regional Program of the Mayan Train Project was presented, prepared under the leadership of Sectur, with the support of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur), the participation of 37 agencies and entities of the federal public administration, to work closely with the authorities of Yucatan, Quintana Roo, Campeche, Tabasco and Chiapas, and thus generate a multisectoral impact in the southeast of the country in favor of the progress and well-being of its population.

The Secretary of Tourism reiterated that this work will have an extension of 1,525 kilometers of railway, will have 20 stations and a potential for 190 high-impact tourist attractions.

As a second point, the scope of the coordination agreements that allow carrying out verification actions in tourism, in such a way that the quality of services can be raised and tourists enjoy legal security, were presented.

In this sense, an accompaniment by Sectur was agreed so that the State Tourism Secretariats meet with the representatives of the accommodation companies through digital platforms to add them to the tax base of the entities, as was done on the occasion. with the federal instances that resulted in these companies paying VAT and ISR.

Those attending the National Tourism Conference also analyzed the National Registry of Tourism Investment, an instrument with which it is intended to generate statistical information at the municipal, state, regional and national levels, regarding the amount of private investment in the sector.

Speaking of the importance of the Magical Towns as a trigger for tourism diversification and the economy of the communities, Torruco Marqués specified that last December, Sectur carried out the first economic study on the 132 localities that have this appointment, through which It has been possible to determine the importance of these destinations for domestic tourism, as well as their importance in the local, state, regional and national economy, since it has employment data, Census Added Value, Tourism GDP, among other indicators.

He added that the Magical Towns are benefiting from the implementation of the "Alfonso García González" Geointelligence Center, through which the comprehensive services provided by the Green Angels to tourists traveling by road are being enhanced.

With the purpose of knowing the characteristics and guidelines to be followed in the regulation of the territory of the three orders of government, in the cultural, social, economic and environmental fields, the Culture of the Tourist Planning of the Territory was also raised at the National Conference on Tourism. .

The secretaries and officials of the state Tourism Secretariats also received an update on the latest tourism promotion actions carried out by Sectur, through programs such as the Operation Knocks on Doors and Reunion with my Roots; participation in the main international Tourism Fairs, as well as the Permanent Tourism Observatory, a tool that concentrates these strategic actions.

The last point dealt with was the cancellation of the six Mixed Tourism Promotion Trusts that are in force but do not report activity, and for which the support of state governments is required.

Those attending the virtual meeting exchanged their experiences, concerns and good practices on the topics discussed, with the aim of finding coincidences and promoting, in a collaborative manner, actions that contribute to the development of tourism in Mexico.

The meeting also included the participation of Judith Guerra, president of the Mexican Group of Travel Agencies and Tourism Companies (GMA), who made her comments on behalf of the business sector, and reiterated the commitment of the associations that make up the group she chairs to find mechanisms that facilitate tourist activity in the different destinations of the country.

During the National Conference on Tourism, the Secretaries of Tourism from: Guerrero, Santos Ramírez Cuevas; from the State of Mexico, Marcela González Salas; from Hidalgo, Eduardo Javier Baños Gómez; from Baja California Sur, Rosa Maribel Collins; from Querétaro, Mariela Morán Ocampo; from Nayarit, Juan Enrique Suárez from Real Tostado; from Sonora, Celida López Cárdenas; as well as the undersecretaries of Tourism José de Jesús Quiñónez Ramírez, from Baja California; and Andrés Aguilar, from Quintana Roo; among other tourism sector officials.
