Tourism GDP of Mexico grew 22.1% in the 1st. Quarter of 2022
The Secretary of Tourism Miguel Torruco Marqués reported that the figure represents a recovery of 46.4% over the same period in 2021
The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced the results of the Quarterly Indicators of Tourism Activity (ITAT), made up of the Tourism Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the Interior Tourism Consumption corresponding to the first quarter of 2022 with seasonally adjusted figures, published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), pointed out that, when performing an analysis of the trend observed in these two indicators, a sustained path towards recovery stands out in the Tourism GDP since, in its annual comparison, it registered an increase of 22.1 % in real terms and shows a recovery of 46.4 percentage points compared to the annual variation of the first quarter of 2021 (-24.3%). Also surpassing with 21.3 percentage points to reach the annual variation registered in the same period of 2019 (+0.8%).
Torruco Marqués indicated that, compared to the previous quarter, the Tourism GDP in the first quarter of 2022 grew 3.4% in real terms, standing 2.4 percentage points above the National GDP, which grew 1.0% in this period.
He informed that, by components of tourism GDP, in its annual rate, goods grew 11.6% and services 24.1% in real terms. While, compared to the previous quarter, goods registered a growth of 2.7% and services 3.5.
In parallel, the Quarterly Indicator of Internal Tourism Consumption in its annual comparison, presented an increase of 25.7%, showing a recovery of 50.9 percentage points compared to the annual variation of the first quarter of 2021 (-25.2%), also surpassing with 24.4 percentage points the annual variation of the first quarter of 2019 (+1.4%).
Compared to the fourth quarter of 2021, Domestic Tourism Consumption (which is equivalent to the sum of domestic tourism consumption and receptive tourism consumption), registered an increase of 4.2% in real terms, said the Secretary of Tourism.
Among the components of Internal Tourist Consumption, the results reflect an increase in its annual rate, that is, Internal Tourist Consumption grew 11.8% and Receptive Tourist Consumption 121.2% in real terms. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2021, Domestic Tourism Consumption grew 3.8% and Inbound Tourism Consumption increased 7.3%.
