The Ministry of Tourism and Sports confirms for the winter season 2022 a growth trend in tourist activity that marks figures higher than those of 2019. In an act held at the Grand Bourg Civic Center, the official data of tourists in Salta was known , economic impact, origin and most visited destinations, among other variables.

Between July 9 and 30, 183,508 tourists were registered in the different municipalities of Salta, who generated a total economic impact of $9,632,133,214. The provincial net employment rate was 82.3%, 6% higher than the period of 2019, the year that had the highest indicators so far.

 Capital registered 90% occupancy, Nearby Destinations 84.8% and Main Destinations 72.2%. The average overnight stay in the entire province was 5.2 nights. The classification by destination shows that the most chosen were Capital, San Antonio de los Cobres, San Lorenzo, Vaqueros, Cachi, Cafayate, Coronel Moldes, Chicoana, Molinos and Rosario de la Frontera. These were some of the data from the report released by the Secretary of Tourism, Nadia Loza.

The Minister of Tourism and Sports Mario Peña stated that "the work with the municipalities and the private sector has been demonstrating in each season the increase in the permanence of tourists in Salta, something that is key because it increases the economic impact: this is work, development and improvements in the quality of life of the people of Salta”. He also highlighted not only the 6% growth in occupancy in July, but the 18% accumulated since January compared to 2019. "We are going to recover the tourists prior to the pandemic," the official anticipated.

“The private sector met expectations, the season was very good, of course it is not by chance, it is an incredible job that has been done in public-private articulation. We have been following this trend since January and today it was ratified,” said the president of the Salta Chamber of Tourism, Gustavo Di Mécola. He also congratulated the private sector "of all the municipalities for the enormous growth work, for the emergence of new entrepreneurs."

The president of the Forum of Mayors, Daniel Moreno, described the work of Salta's tourism sector as "impeccable" and highlighted "the new destinations that are being added as an option for tourists arriving in the province."

“That tourism comes at this rate is important to us because it is a key economic activity for the province. In Salta we have a Gross Product per person that is half that of Argentina, so we must double production," said Dib Ashur.

Prior to the press conference, a meeting was held with the private sector in which the Minister of Economy Roberto Dib Ashur, the president of Inprotur Salta Manuela Arancibia, the undersecretary of Tourism Promotion Laura Alcorta and the presidents of the Tren a las Nubes and Cable car San Bernardo, Sebastián Vidal and Martín Miranda. Also the president of the Hotel and Gastronomy Chamber, Juan Lucero and the representative of the Tourism Hotel Association, Carolina Perotti.

Tourist profile

Regarding the profile of the tourist who toured the province, data provided by the Visitor Assistance Centers of inland municipalities and the Assistance Office of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports were taken.

51% arrived in Salta with their family group, mostly in a private vehicle (60%); the main age groups were 45 and 55 years old (31%) and 35 to 45 years old (35%). Regarding the origin, 78.1% were national tourists, the second group corresponded to foreigners with 12.5% ​​and in the third term Salta who did tourism with 9.4%.

Of the percentage of national tourists, the main outbound markets were Buenos Aires, Salta, Córdoba, Santa Fe, Capital Federal, Tucumán, Mendoza, Chaco, Jujuy, Río Negro, Corrientes and Neuquén. International visitors arrived mainly from Brazil (22%), Bolivia (21%), Others (17%), Spain (10%) and France (9%).

Loyalty to the Salta destination remains high in the order of 64%, the average overnight stay was 5.2 nights; the average daily expenditure was $10,245 in the case of domestic tourists and US$62.6 in foreigners. The economic impact of national tourists was $8,859,701,159 and in the case of foreign tourists: US$5,600,215 or $772,432,055.

Other highlights

The Train to the Clouds, the third highest in the world, in the month of its 50 years of tourist service, registered record figures, with 14,425 passengers transported who lived a unique experience in this product that is a Country Brand. The San Bernardo Cable Car, another tourist icon, transported 48,067 people.

Regarding logistics, 2,150 medium and long-distance buses entered the bus terminal in the city of Salta; At the Martín Miguel de Güemes airport, 257 commercial aircraft landed between the companies Aerolineas Argentinas, FlyBondi and JetSMART.
