Palladium Hotel Group strengthens its commitment to the environment
The international hotel group, present in 6 countries, is taking firm steps to fulfill the commitment announced in January 2022 to ensure that 50% of the energy consumed in its facilities comes from renewable sources
Palladium Hotel Group announces its firm commitment to sustainability, structured around three fundamental axes such as the environment, the circular economy and the social sphere. The international hotel group, which has a presence in six countries around the world, confirms new advances in all its hotels globally, advocating renewable energy, the reduction of plastics, the local product, among many other sustainability advances for the industry.
Responsible use of energy
Regarding energy management, Palladium Hotel Group has been promoting actions for years to make responsible use of resources and reduce its environmental impact.
In Spain, 100% of the energy consumed in all its hotels comes from renewable energies, either via guarantees of origin or photovoltaic panel infrastructure for self-consumption. In Ibiza specifically, all the group's establishments in Playa d'en Bossa, Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza, Grand Palladium Palace Ibiza Resort & Spa and Grand Palladium White Island Resort & Spa, have installed this season a total of 1,327 photovoltaic panels, which allow reaching a peak power of 600 kWp. It is estimated that these installations will produce 746,000 kW and will avoid 186,000 kg of CO2 emissions annually.
For its part in America and Latin America, the company has installed a total of 11,088 photovoltaic panels in its resorts in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) and Jamaica. The latter has the largest plate installation in the entire group and in the country and also has a trigeneration project where, by adding Natural Gas to the energy supply, electricity, heat and cold are produced, reducing emissions in electricity consumption and Water. Thus, the Jamaican resort achieves that more than 20% of its energy is renewable and avoids 157,000 kg of CO2 emissions per month.
Also, Palladium Hotel Group plans to expand this number of solar panels in the coming years. On the other hand, in those destinations where the conditions do not make installations of this type of technology possible, the use of other sustainable energies such as natural gas, thermal recovery systems or the use of geothermal energy, among others, is chosen.
Thanks to all these measures, 20% of the global energy consumed in the establishments located in the six countries in which the group has a presence, has a guarantee of renewable origin, a figure that Palladium Hotel Group has committed to raising up to 50% this year.
In line with the culture and values of respect for the environment and society of the Palladium Hotel Group, initiatives are included aimed at developing the company's activity under a circular economy model, based on three essential pillars: recovery, recycling and the reuse of waste. To do this, the group carries out an exhaustive control of waste both in its hotels in Europe and America, through which it has managed to achieve a generalized reduction of this type of material.
Along with this, the hotel company also stands out for its objective of reducing the use of single-use plastics by replacing single-dose dispensers, new formats and sustainable packaging in amenities or other reusable ones. In this way, the group has managed to minimize the use of single-use plastics in all its establishments.
Digitization is another of the determining processes in this field and one of the points on which the hotel company is focusing efforts, on the one hand, to improve the customer experience and, on the other, to reduce the impact of production on paper and other supports.
Local product The local
product is essential in the Palladium Hotel Group offer, which has local suppliers in all the destinations where it operates. The group offers km0 products in all its gastronomic offer, a fact that results in its environmental commitment, since it implies a reduction in CO2 emissions, and in the support of local producers. In addition, it makes visible the gastronomic richness of each enclave as it makes typical products of each area known among its customers.
A commitment present throughout the value chain
Palladium Hotel Group's environmental policy also includes initiatives to protect biodiversity, make responsible use of water and promote the promotion of good practices. Likewise, the group carries out awareness actions among its collaborators and clients through which it invites them to make sustainable use of resources and values the natural environment.
Measures that have made the group's establishments obtain various certifications in terms of sustainability. The most recent have been those awarded to Palladium Hotel Menorca and TRS Ibiza Hotel, 2021 and 2022 respectively, as the best hotel sustainability and renovation projects in Spain by the ReThink Hotel association.
Added to these recognitions is the UNESCO commitment to sustainable travel signed by Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife and the EarthCheck Silver seal also awarded to the Tenerife hotel, as well as the EarthCheck Platinum designation for the Riviera Maya resorts and the Gold designation for the hotels. from Jamaica, Brazil, Punta Cana and Riviera Nayarit; the Blue Flags in Riviera Maya or Punta Cana; the Distintivo S granted by the Ministry of Tourism of Mexico to Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts in Riviera Maya and Riviera Nayarit or the Cleaner Production certification of the Dominican Republic to the establishment of Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts in Punta Cana.
