Mexico exceeds 2 million international visitors in June
The Secretary of Tourism Miguel Torruco Marqués announced that the flow of passengers has been 2 million 201 thousand passengers, which represented 83.6% of the total scheduled seats
Based on information from the Official Airline Guide (OAG) and the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) highlighted that this is the highest proportion of international passengers transported against the offer of seats scheduled so far this year.
He pointed out that in May 2022, the flow of passengers on international flights to Mexico was 2 million 26 thousand 390 passengers, which meant 78% of the offer of 2 million 609 thousand 998 scheduled seats.
He detailed that in April 2022, the proportion of international passengers transported against the offer of scheduled seats was 76%, in March 77%, February 70% and in January 62%.
Torruco Marqués explained that by region, from January to June 2022, North America represented 77.1% of the flow of passengers on international flights with 9 million 347 thousand 934 passengers, followed by the Caribbean, Central and South America with one million 620 thousand 478 passengers transported. , that is, 13.4% of the total.
He indicated that the flow of passengers on international flights from Europe, in the first half of the year, was one million 127 thousand 989 passengers, which represented 9.3% of the total, and from Asia, 31 thousand 88 passengers were transported, with a participation 0.3% of the flow of passengers on international flights.
The Secretary of Tourism reiterated that for 2022 there is a programming of 32 million 568 thousand seats to Mexico from the different regions of the world, which represents 28.3% more than what was programmed in 2021, which was 25 million 377 thousand.
He stressed that from January to December 2022, the offer of seats to Mexico from the North America Region is 24 million 940 thousand seats, which represents a 76.6% share of the total.
Torruco Marqués pointed out that by 2022, the airlines with the largest participation in scheduled seats are: American Airlines with 15.2% of the total, Aeroméxico with 12.2% and United Airlines with 11.3%, which together add up to 12 million 595 thousand seats; and the airports with the largest number of scheduled seats are Cancun, Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and Guadalajara, adding 23 million 869 thousand seats, which represents 73.3% of the total.
He added that the routes to Mexico with the largest number of scheduled seats are: Dallas - Cancun with 740 thousand 214 seats, Houston - Mexico City with 639 thousand 305 seats and Los Angeles - Guadalajara with 549 thousand 497 seats.
